ES e-News for April 6, 2021

ES Virtual School Launches Wednesday, April 7 @ 11AM

As you saw in the recent communication from Dr. Andrew Davies, ISB campus will close through to the end of the Songkran Break.

ES Virtual School will begin tomorrow, Wednesday April 7th.  We’ve all learned a lot from our past virtual school experiences and are ready to launch again!   At 9AM your child’s teacher will share an update as well as the needed Zoom links with you and your child via Seesaw. The regular ES Virtual School Schedule will begin on Thursday after all students have their iPads.

If students do not have their iPad in time for their class meeting at 11AM, they are welcome to join from another device!

ES iPad Pick Up Tomorrow @ 8:30AM

An essential aspect of ES Virtual School is that all students have access to their ISB iPad, loaded with all necessary applications. All ES families are asked to come to campus to collect their child’s iPad kit from the collection point in front of the Chevron Theater starting at 8:30AM on Wednesday, April 7.  Please pick up your child’s iPad before 10:30AM so that your child can participate in the opening class meeting at 11AM.  For families that are not able to pick up their iPads in the morning, the iPads will be available for pick up until 2:30PM.

ATTENTION MONTRI BUS RIDERS: All families who use the Montri bus service were contacted via email by Michael Allen. Families who use the Montri bus service are welcome to come to campus to pick up their child’s iPad after 8:30AM or can complete the digital form sent via email before 9AM on April 7th so the iPad can be delivered to their home later in the afternoon.

Link to the Updated ES Community Virtual School Handbook

The updated ES Community Virtual School Handbook (linked here) includes detailed information about our contingency plans for continued learning when extraordinary events force a closure of the campus. ISB uses a combination of online tools and resources to keep student learning moving forward and keep students connected to their teachers and peers. Virtual School can never replace in person learning; however, we strive to ensure that virtual learning experiences are engaging, based on our learning objectives, and as meaningful as possible.

ISB families, students and faculty shared a wide variety of feedback about their March -June 2020 and January 2021 virtual school experiences which have greatly informed our current Virtual School plans.  Enhancements to the updated virtual school plans include an emphasis on:

  • consistency across the school and throughout the grade levels;
  • clear communication to faculty and parents regarding virtual school expectations;
  • suggested daily schedules for all students and families as well as a defined work day schedule for teachers including collaborative team and individual planning time;
  • significant increase in daily synchronous learning for students via large and small group lessons;
  • plans to receive parent feedback on an ongoing basis;
  • clarity of Woot Woot Wednesday schedules for students, parents and faculty;
  • increase in World Language, Art, Music and PE synchronous classes;
  • Increased differentiation for students who receive EAP/LS Tier 3 support;
  • Increased flexibility for students and families including an increase in optional learning tasks for students and families seeking more virtual school engagement

ZOOM: HELPFUL TIPS!

With video conferencing being used (Zoom), we want to ensure that privacy is maintained for all and that teachers and students have appropriate interactions.

  • Students enter the teacher’s Zoom Room via a waiting room that allows the teacher to select who enters.  Please check that your child’s first and last name are accurate as you launch Zoom.
  • Students should dress appropriately for school. While they do not have to wear uniforms, they should avoid pajamas, sleepwear, or clothing not acceptable at school.
  • It is best to use workspaces like dining rooms, desks, etc. rather than personal bedrooms. Of course, with many children in a home, this can be unavoidable.
  • Everyone in the household should be aware that live video conferencing is happening, so that we avoid accidental privacy violations in the background (including noises and conversations).
