All Gr3 students finished a new First Lego League project that they have been working on the last 5 weeks. Students collaborated in teams of 4 across the grade level to create an automated prototype model of a new playground structure for the new ISB playground. They created a team identity and designed their own team names and logos on t-shirts. The ISB focus attributes included socially-intelligent, creative and self managing.

On Wednesday, March 31st, students presented their projects to special guests including the Grade 2 students and a variety of faculty members in the AUXI gym . Congratulations to the Gr3 students and team of teachers for all their amazing collaboration and risk-taking!

Grade 2 students will have a chance to use the First Lego league kits next!

Orff Ensemble @ HS Jazz Night

On Tuesday, March 30th, the Panther Orff Ensemble performed in collaboration with the HS Jazz Band at Jazz Night! They showed great confidence and courage as they performed in this special interdivisional collaboration. Way to go, musicians!

Weekly Message From Principal Allen

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to meet with different Grade 3 Lego League Teams in the Auxi gym during their exhibition.  Each team of students were interviewed by a teacher or a school leader…including our Head of School, Dr. Andy Davies…where we asked students about their learning through the lens of the ISB attributes of socially-intelligent, creative and self managing. Teachers did a great job of supporting students with their attributes reflections via the success criteria that was articulated for students (see below).

In addition, the First Lego League challenge included the DTE (Design, Technology and Engineering) outcomes that are embedded within units of study across the Elementary School. In this case, students solved the challenge of creating an automated prototype model of a new playground structure for the new ISB playground.  Students used the design cycle to produce and share solutions to this exciting challenge.

Regardless if you had a Grade 3 child who participated in the First Lego League Design Challenge or a child in another grade level, I invite you to ask your child about a design challenge experience he/she has had so far this year.  Be sure to inquire about the ISB Design Cycle and how this process impacted their work and solutions to the challenge.
