‘Lets Jazz it up’
Dear Parents,
The penultimate week before the Songkran break has been a busy one with a number of assemblies and events taking place amidst great learning and discovery in the classrooms and around the school. The Black and Gold Assembly on Thursday celebrated the successes and highlighted the challenges of Season 3 athletes and other Panther representatives from the second half of the year. Congratulations to our athletes, coaches and support staff from the Athletics and activities offices in making this a great season for all concerned.
We celebrated our musicians and partnered with the ES Orff orchestra on Tuesday night at Jazz Night 2, where risk taking, creativity and commitment were on show. The wonderful talents of our Jazz musicians came to life as they improvised and played a wonderful set of Jazz tunes, some classic, some new and even a special arranged piece by Mr. Thomas Myers written especially for the seniors.
Have a great last week of school before we all enjoy a Songkran break.

HPV Vaccine
Dhave Setabutr
dhaves@isb.ac.th
Vaccinations remain an integral part of health maintenance for all. As we encourage parents to consult their primary care physician whenever making medical decisions, the ISB Health Center would also like to inform the community regarding the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.
Cancer remains a leading cause of death in Thailand and the globe. Cervical cancer is second only to breast cancer in terms of numbers of affected women each year. The Ministry of Public Health reports that almost half a million cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed a year in Thailand.
The HPV vaccine and specifically the most recent Gardisil 9 protects girls and boys from various strains of a virus that can cause cancer. The CDC recommends two doses of the vaccine and it is recommended that children receive the vaccine before exposure to the virus. The vaccine is safe and side effects are minimal. If you or your family have any questions regarding this vaccine or others, please feel free to contact the ISB Health Center. A link related to information regarding the vaccine is listed below.
DELVE Immunisations
Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th
With the upcoming DELVE trips in May, it is important that your child is adequately immunised for these trips. For your reference, please see attached list of recommended vaccines from International SOS Bangkok and Dr Dhave for the areas your child may be travelling to during DELVE.
Please note the following;
- vaccines listed are recommended and not compulsory.
- childhood vaccines should be up to date, especially tetanus.
- your child will need to consult with a physician of your choice before vaccines are prescribed and administered. Please ensure you take your child’s vaccination record with you as this history is important.
- your child must be well to receive any vaccines.
In the past, families have gone to AETNA Family Clinic in Nichada to get a consultation and vaccines. Please call 02 960 4216 to make an appointment in advance and please note that not all vaccines are stocked and may have to be ordered.
ISB has no formal affiliation with AETNA and any queries or questions should be handled with the clinic directly.
Kind regards,
Peter Assimakopoulos

New from HS Counselors
Shannon Leoni
As we inch closer to a much-needed Songkran break, counselors are continuing to check in with students to ensure they are finding the balance between focusing on school and self-care. The majority of our conversations with students include talks on healthy sleep hygiene, and making sure that students are prioritizing rest in addition to their other responsibilities.
We continue to be inspired by students who are making the most of this school year, as fragmented and strange as it has been. Our Gr. 12 students are the epitome of this resilience, as they face uncertainty with some of their future plans, yet remain optimistic and continue moving forward. We continue to check-in with them and give them space to voice their concerns or feelings about this stage in their lives.
As we draw slightly closer to the end of the school year, we are also reminding students to be prudent about overcommitting to events or activities. ISB is a wonderful place that has numerous opportunities for students to get involved, yet we also want students to again find that balance between school life and home life. We are confident that students will continue to make the best of this school year, and we remain open and willing to chat with students about any issues that come up for them. Please do let us know if you have any concerns about your student’s well-being so we can collaborate on next steps to support them.
Thank you.

Seniors:
Decisions are still coming in from various parts of the globe. As always, we ask that students share that information with their counselor. Please be sure you are checking your admission portals as that may be where and how the decisions are released to you. They will also tell you if something is missing from your application–and it’s your responsibility to know that.
It’s important for seniors to check for deadlines of when they must make their decision known to a university–when do you need to make a deposit and is there also a separate housing deposit? Do not miss out because you didn’t follow up.
Do NOT double deposit!! This can lead to all offers being rescinded in the US. If you have questions about depositing in other countries, please speak with your college counselor right away.
If you have received all of your UK decisions, please know your deadline for picking your Firm and Insurance choice. If you have questions about that, please speak with your counselor.
And, as always, please update your Cialfo with ALL of your decisions–Admit, Conditional Admit, Denied, Waitlisted, January Admit, Deferred, Withdrawn.
Save the Date: there will be a US Student VISA Talk by the US Embassy for Seniors and their parents on April 22, 3:00-4:00pm. More information about this event will be available as the date nears. Please check back in the eNews.
Juniors:
Juniors have their first essay draft due to their college counselor on April 9th. We look forward to reading them and giving feedback to help support the development of some amazing essays.
April 9 is also our last Junior College Seminar of the year. We have a lot to talk about that day as a group, but it is not the last time juniors will meet with their counselors! They should continue to drop by and schedule times to meet throughout the rest of the semester.
Juniors have all met with their counselor and presented for their Junior-Led Conferences. At this point, they should be continuing on with their research, looking at their Cialfo Longlists and adding or deleting things from it as they research. It will be important for them to keep meeting with their counselor so that we can provide feedback and guidance, especially as they look at potential colleges and universities.
Summer Programs:
If you are wondering what to do during the summer, check out our summer program opportunities list on the College Counseling Google site: Summer Programs
SAT:
The last SAT this school year is June 5th and is Subject Test ONLY. The deadline to register for the June test date is May 6. This will be the last time any Subject Tests are offered ever!
ISB Virtual University Visits Next Week:
No virtual visits next week, but keep checking our website to see what other virtual opportunities are available. We have put a recorded session with Lingnan University in Hong Kong on our Resources page if you were not able to attend the session.
To find the links and registration for this visit and other virtual visits, go to our College Site.
