Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Thank you for support and attendance at the parents conferences last week on Friday. We enjoyed 80%+ attendance for our Grade 9-11 families and whilst that meant teachers were busy on Friday, it also means that we have healthy interest and support from parents in the learning of their children. Thank you again.

Thank you also to the 45 or so parents that joined us on Thursday for the Principals’ Forum. HS Admin shared responses and answered questions that had been put forward by the Principals’ Forum Committee members on behalf of the HS parent body. We enjoyed some lively discussions and were able to address the questions that came forward. If you would like to see the slideshow containing the questions and the responses you can click on this LINK

Have a wonderful weekend.
Regards
Justin Alexander
HS Principal

Rescued Glass

Peter Assimakopoulos
petera@isb.ac.th

Rescued Glass is a social enterprise run by passionate high school and college students that focuses on decreasing the growing issue of glass pollution. We strive to educate and inspire our community to help us protect and foster the environment. Rescued Glass collects used glass bottles and transforms them into high-quality glass products through the process of upcycling and recycling.

Not only are we conscious about creating a positive environmental impact, but we strive to have a meaningful social impact by working with Second Chance Thailand to employ underprivileged women in the Khlong Toey slums to create our sustainable packaging. Purchasing from Rescued Glass not only empowers us to promote our environmental goals across the world, but it allows you to make a meaningful difference one bottle at a time.

In 2021, The ISB Rescued Glass Club was founded to Sell Upcycled Glass Products, Educate

The ISB and Nichida Communities About The Effects Of Glass Waste, and Give ISB Students

Seniors:
Decisions are still coming in from various parts of the globe. As always, we ask that students share that information with their counselor. Please be sure you are checking your admission portals as that may be where and how the decisions are released to you. They will also tell you if something is missing from your application–and it’s your responsibility to know that.

If you have your UK decisions, please know your deadline for picking your Firm and Insurance choice. If you have questions about that, please speak with your counselor.

And, as always, please update your Cialfo with ALL of your decisions–Admit, Conditional Admit, Denied, Waitlisted, January Admit, Deferred, Withdrawn.

Save the Date: there will be a US Student VISA Talk (virtually) by the US Embassy for Seniors and their parents on April 22, 3:00-4:00pm.  A link to this virtual event will be available as the date nears. Please check back in the eNews.

Juniors:
The second to last Junior College Seminar was on the 17th. We talked more about testing, writing and the importance of virtual visits. All juniors will give their College Counselor a first draft of an essay by April 9th!

All junior-led conferences should be scheduled by now. If not, you will be receiving an email from your counselor.

Summer Programs:
If you are wondering what to do during the summer, check out our summer program opportunities list on the College Counseling Google site: Summer Programs

Important Community Event:
The amazing Dr. Josephin Kim, from Harvard University, will hold an important event next week, Thursday, March 25, 6:00-7:30pm (BKK time) via Zoom. The topic: Growing Global Mindedness: Addressing Implicit Bias and Cultural Difference. This discussion can provide some great guidance and affirmations to our students as they head off to other parts of the world.

Please join the ISB and Nichada community for this event. More information is here.

Anthony Giles
anthonyg@isb.ac.th

On the 27th and 28th of March, ISB will be sending a 12 person delegation to compete in Thailand’s biggest MUN conference virtually. Over the course of two days students will partake in a designated committee which will simulate either a branch of the UN, or an organ of a global government such as the US Congress, or re-enact historic events such as the Soviet-Afghan war. Within their committees delegates will engage with a breadth of topics from the promotion of cultural hegemony in education, to the resolution of the Turkey-Syria conflict. Students will partake in the capacity of either participants- delegates, or moderators- chairs. Despite being in competition with 40 other schools, we hope to garner some best delegate certificates. Best of luck to all delegates!

The What, When and Where about Panther Activities

Panther Activities at ISB is the umbrella organization for a multitude of programs offered after school and on weekends that provide active, creative, diverse and collaborative opportunities for all students. Different from scholastic programs which are offered exclusively to ISB students as an extension of their enrollment, most Panther Activities include a fee and are open to both ISB and non-ISB students. Although some Panther Activities sessions align with the three ISB Athletic seasons which start in August, October, and February respectively, many are offered year round with two registration periods, August and January, in line with the start of each of ISB’s academic semesters. Although sometimes daunting to navigate, the plethora of choices available at ISB, coupled with multiple entry points to join throughout the year, allow students to dabble, dive deep, or diversify! Questions? Contact PantherActivities@isb.ac.th
