ES Parent Feedback to Class Placement Team 2021/22

As we want your child to flourish while attending ISB, your input as our partner in education is important.  If there is any important or relevant information that you think your classroom teacher or counselor may not have that you feel would be helpful to consider as we make classroom placement decisions for the 2021-22 school year, complete the form linked here (hard copies available in ES office) and submit it to the ES Office by Monday, March 15, 2021.  The information you provide will be taken into consideration by the Classroom Placement Team which includes the current and future grade level teams of teachers, counselors, and administration. Note that only feedback submitted via this form will be taken into consideration by the Classroom Placement Team.

If You Know you are Leaving ISB

Families who are leaving ISB at the end of the school year are asked to inform the school as soon as possible using the official Notice of Online Withdrawal Form.  This helps us prepare school records for your child and with planning for next year.

Weekly Message From Principal Allen

All day yesterday and today the ES hallways and classrooms were full of enthusiastic students and supportive parents coming together with our committed faculty during Student Led Conferences!

We saw that parents were actively participating in their child’s learning by asking questions, giving students feedback, and celebrating the learning with their child(ren). All of us in the ES hope that the Student Led Conference process provided opportunities for you to understand your child’s successes and challenges at school as well gave you further insight into the educational program being offered by ISB (click here to revisit the math and literacy overviews shared with you in January 2021).  In addition, we hope the time spent on campus gave you the opportunity to ask questions or seek clarity from teachers, counselors and/or administrators. If you continue to have any questions about your child’s learning at ISB, please reach out and let us know.

With Student Led Conferences behind you, it’s important to reflect on the conference experience at home with your child and work together to develop a plan to implement any strategies that were discussed and/or goals that were set during the conference.  Supporting your child effectively as they work towards their goals requires periodic check-ins and ongoing feedback…having the goals visible in your home such as listed on the fridge or posted in the child’s homework area or bedroom can be a great way to remind you to follow with your child in the weeks and months to come.

Thanks again for participating in Student Led Conferences…they are an essential piece of our ongoing home-school partnership!

Your partner in education,
Michael Allen, Ed.D.

ES PK2-Grade 5 PE News

Our swimming unit in Physical Education (PE) is just around the corner.  We have a total of three sessions of swimming dates for Elementary School (PK2-Grade 5).  Please see the full ES swim schedule for all classes and sessions.  We will send a reminder to families on Seesaw when the time gets closer for that particular class to swim. When students are not swimming, they will continue with their regular PE lessons in the gym.

Students will be participating in a swimming and water safety unit as part of the Elementary PE Program.  This unit is designed to promote knowledge and skills in the areas of personal water safety, fundamental strokes, and simple water rescues.  There will be three swimming specialists along with Corry Day, ISB’s Aquatics Director, assisting the PE teacher with the swimming unit.  We will also have lifeguards on deck during every class.

The program is designed to help meet the needs of all students and is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.  Students will be screened and placed in a level that is developmentally appropriate based upon his or her current swimming ability.

What to bring to PE:
Swimsuit, towel, and goggles clearly marked with the student’s name, to every PE lesson.  Girls are requested to wear a one-piece swimsuit.  UV (rash) protective shirts are permitted, but rash shirts need to be properly fitted, as loose rash shirts inhibit swimming efficiency.  Should a student forget to bring a swimsuit, towel, or goggles, they will be provided with one from the aquatics program to be used for the day and this will need to be returned at the end of class.

Students with long hair need to wear a swim cap or tie their hair back for each lesson.  Students may bring their own sunscreen if they desire.

In the event of inclement weather, students will have an alternate PE lesson so they need to come each day prepared in their normal PE attire, including athletic shoes and socks. Students may bring crocs or sandals in their swim bag should they choose to wear them after swimming class.

Swimming is a part of the ISB PE curriculum and full participation is expected.  Any student who is unable to participate in class must inform the PE teacher in writing or via email.  If no notification is received prior to their PE class, they will be expected to participate.

If you or your child have any questions about the swimming unit please do not hesitate to contact your child’s PE teacher.

ES Art Walk Open Until March 26

The walkways and gallery spaces of Elementary school are filled with a joyous display of the art from our grade K-5 students.  Every K-5 artist is celebrated and we welcome the ISB community to come and walk through the exhibition and view the wonderful work. In the Art studio we offer the opportunity for students to create, present, and reflect on their art. We value each artist’s process and encourage experimentation and personal voice and choice within a guided practice. Students grow as both artists and individuals from their successes and failures experienced along the way. The showcase of our students’ learning in art can be found throughout various ES gallery spaces including the ES art quad, Hub, ES office, Chevron foyer gallery, and the walkway which connects G1 to the Art Quad.
