‘Conferences’

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your attendance and participation in the Student Parent Teachers conferences earlier today.  Once again we had great attendance (from both parents and students) and there were many helpful and thoughtful conversations between students, teachers, and parents taking place throughout the day. These conferences arrive in time for our Grade 9-11 students to still make adjustments in the learning habits and efforts over the course of the last few months of their school year whilst our seniors are focused on their mock exams and then the last few weeks of their schooling.

There is much to celebrate and much to look forward to over the next few months.

Have a great weekend

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Principals Forum Thursday March 18th 9.00 am
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

A reminder that we are hosting the HS Principals forum meeting on Thursday in the MPB#1 starting at 9.00 am. We will be addressing the questions that were shared with the PF parent committee over the past month or so. The questions covered a few different areas such as:

Why are there combined IB HL/SL classes as ISB?

AP courses at ISB.

IB rules/regulations at ISB – How many HL classes can a student take, can they sit an IB SL. exam in Grade 11, how do predicted grades work, and what do they mean.

Native Language classes at ISB – can they be split into more levels?

World Language progression from Grade 9-12.

Start time of school for HS students.

Please do come and join us to hear the responses to these and other questions. This meeting will be an in-person meeting in the MPB but Parents must pre-register in order to gain access to the campus for that meeting. Please complete this pre-registration form before Tuesday 3pm.

Seniors:
Decisions from North American universities will be making their decisions known in the next several weeks. As always, we ask that students share that information with their counselor. Please be sure you are checking your admission portals as that may be where and how the decisions are released to you. They will also tell you if something is missing from your application–and it’s your responsibility to know that.

Good luck to everyone on their mock exams!

Juniors:
The second to last Junior College Seminar will be next week on the 17th. We will talk more about testing, writing and the importance of virtual visits. You will also have time to work on your first essay draft, due to us by April 9th!

All junior-led conferences should be scheduled by now. If not, you will be receiving an email from your counselor.

Summer programs:
If you are wondering what to do during the summer, check out our summer program opportunities list on the College Counseling Google site: Summer Programs

SAT:
The next SAT is tomorrow, Saturday, March 13. Please know the rules to gain entry to this College Board Test Center:

1) All students must bring their school ID to get on campus

2) ALL STUDENTS must bring their Passport or Thai National ID and Admissions Ticket to gain entrance to the test rooms.

–>No student will be admitted without a Thai National ID or a Passport and their Admissions Ticket. An ISB school ID is NOT accepted for testing purposes. There are NO exceptions–College Board makes these rules, not us.

3) All phones will be turned off for the entire testing time and students may not access them until the tests are completed.

We will let students in at 7:30am.

The last SAT this school year is June 5th and is Subject Test ONLY. The deadline to register is April 8. This will be the last time any Subject Tests are offered ever!

CNN’s My Freedom Day event hosted by Traffic Jam

Anthony Giles
anthonyg@isb.ac.th

MS and HS Lunches, March 16th Outdoor Stage

Traffic Jam is a HS service club whose mission is to raise awareness and educate people about human trafficking in Thailand. Both sex and labour trafficking are, unfortunately, extremely common in Thailand. 9 out of 1000 people in Thailand are slaves. It is estimated that 610,000 people in Thailand are the victims of trafficking. The 16th of March marks the CNN #MyFreedomDay campaign. This is a student-driven event around the world designed to raise awareness about modern slavery. To support #MyFreedomDay, during MS and HS lunch at the outdoor stage, ISB will be hosting an acoustic performance by ISB alumni and professional singers Alex Sypsomos, Nikki Glucksman, and Jace Payackapan. Alongside these guest artists will be 2 extremely knowledgeable guest speakers here to tell us how they are working to end human trafficking, and how we can help. Please join us!!!
