Virtual School Practice

Dear ISB Parents,

We know how fortunate we are to have been in school, face to face with students for more than two months now!  Thailand continues to be a safe place where we are able to live our lives fairly normally, and we are able to maintain our learning and activities for our students and families. However, we have continued to plan for the possibility of virtual school if needed. While we hope that we never have to implement these plans, having them and sharing them with our community is an important step in our community’s preparedness should we need to go to virtual school.

In updating the virtual school plans, our divisional administrators have facilitated processes that include reviewing feedback from parents, students, and teachers gathered at the end of the last school year. This inclusive process also included multiple teacher meetings in order to reflect upon the processes and activities that were the most beneficial to students during virtual school.

The handbooks look different for each division because the learners at each level have different needs. There is as much alignment as possible between divisions to help families better organize themselves for learning, but the focus was on creating the best plans based on students’ developmental needs, ability to self-manage, and independence in learning.

A key component of any learning is practice. To that end, we have been providing opportunities for students at every level to engage in practice with virtual learning.  Again, these practice activities will be differentiated for our learners’ needs and developmental levels.

Elementary Virtual School Handbook (LINK) ES students will have had a practice experience at some point during the week of October 16-20 in class.  The practices have been designed by teams based on developmental levels, with the purpose being to orient students and families with our core Virtual School tools.  Since Seesaw will be the primary communication tool with students and families in the case of Virtual School, we ask that all parents ensure they are receiving Seesaw communications and contact classroom teachers if they are not.
MS Virtual School Handbook (LINK) MS Students will be orientated to virtual school expectations in each of their classes by their teachers to ensure that they are fully prepared to go virtual with no loss of learning time. Many of the tools and skills used daily in class translate directly to ISB’s virtual school environment and learning expectations.
HS Virtual School Handbook (LINK) HS Students will be orientated to virtual school expectations in each of their classes by their teachers to ensure that they are fully prepared to go virtual with no loss of learning time. Many of the tools and skills used daily in class translate directly to ISB’s virtual school environment and learning expectations.

If you have any questions, please contact the division principals or Debi Caskey, Deputy Head of School for Learning (debic@isb.ac.th).
