GCW Update 1 : February 5th, 2020

Dear Parents,

Please see the message below regarding the upcoming Global Citizenship Week (GCW) trips.

Please note that we have a meeting on Wednesday February 5th at 6.30pm in MPB1 where the main agenda item is the movement of GCW trips for the school year 2020/21 from February to December. Apologies if there was any confusion caused by the message sent in last night’s PTA E news with the headline ‘postponement of GCW meeting’. The postponement was referring to last week’s original scheduled GCW meeting – not GCW itself.

Regards

GCW Update number 1: February 5th

Dear High School Parents,

We would like to give you an update for our High School Global Citizenship Week (GCW). At this point in time we are still planning to continue with GCW later this month with a number of safeguards in place for trips.

We are carefully monitoring the situation on a daily basis and are undertaking the following steps to ensure that all our trips run safely:

  • We continue to consult with International SOS (ISOS) who are our trip safety risk management experts and act on recommendations provided by them related to trip safety and travel advice. ISOS works with many international schools and organisations in the region and provides robust safety processes that include medical support and medical emergency response protocols.
  • Trip providers are being consulted to ensure that their protocols align with ISB’s and to ensure that adequate planning is in place to run trips with extra precautions given the current Coronavirus situation.
  • We are reviewing and adjusting trip itineraries where necessary.
  • ISB has procedures in place for dealing with illnesses on all trips (including remote trips) and teacher chaperones have 24 hour access to medical experts (doctors etc.) through the service that ISOS provides to us. ISOS has also identified local hospitals for all trips and have direct access to these medical teams along with various medical transport resources.
  • Faculty are being included in discussions as we plan for safeguards with all trips.
  • Our Crisis Response Team is meeting regularly to identify and mitigate the risks associated with travel at this time.

We will be meeting with HS PTA representatives and HS Student council members today to keep them informed and to respond to any questions/concerns that they raise.

Please rest assured that we will carefully consider student safety and wellbeing for every GCW trip planned. We will continue to make decisions based on reliable sources and information and with input from our safety experts. We ask that ISB parents continue to check their emails and the ISB Website regularly as the situation is evolving.

We will continue to provide updates and information in the days ahead regarding the situation.

We are very grateful for your understanding and cooperation at this challenging time. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please contact any of us below.
