‘IASAS Spirit alive and well’

Dear Parents,

It has been wonderful to be able to watch our ISB student-athletes and their IASAS counterparts on the courts and in the pool for the Boys Tennis and Swimming championships here at ISB. The competitions have been hosted in great spirit, with fantastic support from the home team and from parents visiting from overseas. Saturday is Championship day with some preliminary games in the morning and then playoffs in the afternoon for all of the tournaments. You can follow the results and watch games and matches live-streamed from all locations by clicking on the links below – or you can just come to ISB and see the swimming and Boys tennis live!

IASASS Update:
The Boys tennis team is undefeated, Girls tennis have 3 wins and a loss, Boys Rugby have won two matches and are playing for a place in the final on Saturday morning, Girls basketball are 2-2 and looking for a place in the finals, Boys basketball are starting to find their touch, Girls touch team are looking for victory in their last two games after two draws whilst the Boys swim team are currently leading and the Girls wim team are third. Go Panthers.

Whilst we continue to monitor developments with regards to the coronavirus and share updates with our parents and students, it is worth taking a moment to appreciate the wonderful opportunities afforded to our students who are able to participate and compete in IASAS and other tournaments in Bangkok and throughout the region. Do stay in good health and please note that we are continuing to monitor the situation and will share accurate and useful information as it relates to school life at ISB.

Reminder: Global Citizenship Week (2020/21) meeting

Grade 10 ISA Testing

On Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd  February all Grade 10 students will be completing the International Schools Assessment (ISA) in Mathematical Literacy, Reading and
Writing.  This assessment is conducted in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 at ISB and the results are used to provide patterns in learning and assist in charting future direction. Students are expected to bring a pencil, black pen, eraser, ruler, sharpener and calculator to the test.  EAL students may also bring a translating dictionary for the Mathematics.  Information regarding this test and what to bring was already shared with students this week.

News from the Counselors

Students are settled into their classes and off to a good start.  Please note the following dates and deadlines below:

Many of the dates in the box below will be of special interest to Grade 10 students and parents:

Schedule changes can only be made for the following reasons and by the following dates:

  1. If a teacher recommends a level change due to misplacement (i.e. Math HL to Math SL, Extended Math to Core Math, Spanish III to Spanish II), a change can be made with counselor, parent and administrative approval.  The original class will not appear on transcript.  Deadline is Friday, February 14.
  2. Between the fifth and tenth week of a course, if a student needs to move down a level, the dropped course will be listed on the transcript with a WP (Withdraw Pass) or WF (Withdraw Fail).  WP or WF grades are not included in the calculation of GPA nor are credits granted.  The grade calculated in the new course will start fresh and only include work completed for the new course.  Deadline is Friday, March 20.
  3. No level changes afterMarch 20.

Junior Seminar #3

On January 27 the Grade 11’s had their Junior Seminar #3.  The Student Led Junior Conference was the point of focus.  Student Led Conferences should be scheduled during February and March with the students’ parents and counselor.  Please ask your child to review the information and identify several possible dates/times for the conference. Appointments should be set for one hour during the student’s free period.

Seniors

Many university decisions will be coming in February and March.  Seniors should inform their College Counselor about all decisions. 

Important: The student must tell the College Counselor which university he/she will attend! Students should deposit to ONE university and ISB will send one final transcript to the “attending” university.

Season 3 Varsity/JV /U15 Tryout Information

Please carefully check through the information below and the linked TRYOUT SCHEDULE & INFORMATION for times and venues for the upcoming season 3 sports at ISB.

Tryouts begin on February 4 for varsity teams. Only students in grades 9-12 are eligible for varsity squads. JV tryouts will continue in the week that follows for students in grades 8-12 and for those not initially selected for varsity.

Most students in grades 8 & 9 are eligible to play U15 sports, so please check the dates, times, and venues for those sports if interested.

ISB is excited to host the 2020 IASAS Swim and Boys Tennis Championships, this week, January 30-February 1. Don’t miss all the record setting speed and inevitable splash our swimmers make as they take on the best from SE Asia in one of the most highly anticipated meets of the decade!

Check the IASAS SWIM SCHEDULE so you don’t miss a race, a record, and a rendezvous with greatness, next weekend at ISB. We’ll have vendors galore, the irreplaceable Booster Club on site, and all the Panther Spirit you could wish for squished up into one hot venue, next Thursday-Saturday at the Sports Complex. 

ISB will also host the IASAS Boys Tennis Championships, an additional extravaganza we picked up due to the Taal Volcano in the Philippines. Don’t miss your opportunity to witness some of the top tennis in SE Asia, with our ISB Panthers battling it out for top billing, right here on our campus. We have unrivaled spectator seating, spirit galore, and a young, hungry team ready to take on any challengers.

IASAS Forensics and Debate CC Showcase

 February 5 & 6 (3:00 pm MPB1): IASAS Forensics and Debate delegates are excited to showcase their talents for the ISB community! Please join the Debate Teams in MPB1 on Wednesday, February 5th as they hash out the finer points behind the motion: THBT: Feminists should reject chivalry. What’s your opinion on the matter? We are expecting a fun-filled event with a chance for you, the audience, to participate and cast your vote to decide a winner. After that, join members of the dynamic Forensics Team, also in MPB1, on Thursday, February 6th as they present their speeches in the categories of Oral Interpretation, Original Oratory, Impromptu, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Come support our IASAS delegates and listen to impressive speeches that will have you laughing, crying and contemplating life. The performances are free of charge and all are invited. 

  

  

 

 

IASAS Music CC Showcase Performances

 2:45pm Feb. 11 and 12, 2020 in MS/HS Choir Room: The annual ISB CC Music Showcase Performances will be held in the MS/HS Choir Room on both Tues. Feb. 11th and Wed. Feb. 12th beginning at 2:45 pm. Delegates from the four music areas, choir, band, strings and piano, will be performing their solos and ensembles which they will also perform at the Cultural Convention here in Bangkok in early March (6 &7) for adjudication. Audience members may come and go throughout the program between performances as necessary. Come out and support our wonderful music students as they prepare for the 2020 Music Cultural Convention at ISB. The recital is free of charge and all are welcome.
