MS Olympics on Thursday
The MS Olympics, hosted this year by Thailand, are scheduled for Thursday, December 19th. The Opening Ceremony begins in the morning at 7:30 AM in Rajendra Hall and culminates with the lighting of the torch on Field A. We invite parents to join the audience on the day. We have special seating set aside for parents.
Students are divided by PE teachers into 4 color teams and engage in events throughout the day with their grades, participating in fun team games, cultural games, and track & field events. Participation earns points for the teams and it ends with a tug-o-war before the end of the school day.
If you have time on the day, we encourage you to come check out the opening ceremony, but also leave your child to participate in the event without parents hovering over them.
Monitoring Air Quality for MS Olympics Events
We continue to monitor air quality as we plan for our MS Olympics events. Today, we moved the Biathlon event to the afternoon to allow the air quality improve. This proved a good idea as the temperatures and air quality in the morning would have required modifying the program.
For Thursday’s MS Olympics Day, we will monitor the air quality and adjust activity if necessary. The three rotations of events are in Cultural Games inside Rajendra, Team Games on the fields, and Track and Field on Field A.
If AQI exceeds 150, we will ensure added breaks for the Team Games. At the Track and Field, none of the running races are longer than 200 meters, so exertion is not prolonged. And of course, the Cultural Games are indoors.
Hopefully, AQI won’t be an issue, but we wanted to reassure parents that we are monitoring it and will adjust events as needed on the day or by the hour as AQI changes.
We are looking forward to a great day of MS Olympics fun.
Great books to read over the holidays
While there is still a week of school, we encourage students and parents to check books out of the library. We know how important it is for children to read – the learning benefits are well documented. We also know that families try to balance how much time their children spend on screens. Reading can be a powerful way for the family to spend downtime together and for children to separate from media and screens.
Get to our school library and check out what’s there on offer!
