GCW Cell Phone Survey and Parent Information Meeting
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th
Many thanks to the many parents that were able to attend the GCW Parent Information Meeting on Wednesday 27 November earlier this week. The meeting provided a chance for sharing of information around this year’s GCW, in particular medical and safety information and budgeting for GCW.
We also spent half of the time sharing the changes that are planned for the future of GCW in more depth than were shared in our September PTA meeting. These changes are detailed in the attached slide show and have a summary of the key changes and steps in place for the shift to December for GCW next year. There will be more information shared throughout the year with regards to these changes.
For parents that were unable to attend the meeting, the full set of slides can be found at this link.
We also talked about the concept of a cell phone free GCW this year. We are very interested in getting parental input into this proposal and have asked parents to contribute to this very short survey to gain some data. Please take 2-3 minutes to share your thoughts as we move forward for this year’s GCW.

News from HS Counselors
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th
Students in Advisory classes completed the “Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire” (SDQ) in the past week (Tuesday 19 November for grades 9 and 10, and Tuesday 26 November for grades 11 and 12), and the counselors are looking at the results in order to see what trends are prevalent in the high school as well as what students are most at risk in the high school. The data collected is used to see trends in student behavior, perceptions, and feelings, and to individually help students who are struggling with school and personal issues. We counselors have already had discussions with many students about their feelings about school, friendships, families, and all sorts of things on their minds, as a result of administering the SDQ. We will do the questionnaire again in March to monitor all of our students’ wellbeing again this school year.

You can also share your concerns with our Headmistress Khun Usa (usomboon@isb.ac.th) or the Director of Risk Management Mark Hevland (markh@isb.ac.th ). December 2-6, 2019
Because we are Better Together…
Every first week in December, schools worldwide celebrate Inclusive Schools Week. Inclusive Schools Week recognizes the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference and other factors. The week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children.—www.ideapublicschools.org

Vaccinations
June D’Mello
juned@isb.ac.th
With the upcoming GCW trips, it is important that your child is adequately immunised for these trips. For your reference, please see attached list of recommended vaccines from International SOS Bangkok for the areas/countries your child may be travelling to during GCW.
Please note the following;
- vaccines listed are recommended and not compulsory.
- childhood vaccines should be up to date, especially tetanus.
- your child will need to consult with a physician of your choice before vaccines are prescribed and administered. Please ensure you take your child’s vaccination record with you as this history is important.
- your child must be well to receive any vaccines.
AETNA Family Clinic in Nichada have agreed the following for ISB students attending GCW;
- They will wave the consultation fee for individual vaccination consultations.
- Provide special discount, up to 10% off on series of required vaccines.
- Conduct group consultation/vaccine review at Nichada Clinic on Monday, Thursday, and Fridays.
Please call 02 960 4216 to make an appointment in advance and please note that not all vaccines are stocked and may have to be ordered.
ISB has no formal affiliation with AETNA and any queries or questions should be handled with the clinic directly.
Kind Regards,

CAS and PE classes
Becky Hansberry
beckyh@isb.ac.th
All 11th and 12th graders are required to complete the CAS program: Creativity, Activity and Service. As part of this program, students need to do at least one experience in each strand in 11th grade and again in 12th grade. The Activity experience, referring to physical activity, is often the strand that students find challenging. In order to ensure that students fulfill the Activity requirement, we are asking all students to identify their intention on Managebac by November 30th. If students do not have their plans for an Activity experience on Managebac by this date, then they will be assigned to take a 2nd semester PE class for CAS credit. Activity experiences can be any physical exercise such as an ISB team sport, swimming, running, using the ISB gym, taking a fitness class outside of ISB, anything that meets regularly and has an adult (non parent) supervisor who can verify the student’s participation. If they are part of a 3rd season sport, a fitness class, or similar activity that hasn’t started yet, they should enter that on Managebac to show their intentional plan.
