With the recent decision made to maintain the same ISB uniform for the upcoming school year, we have updated the High School Uniform Policy to address some of the key issues around the uniform.
For parents who are looking to purchase clothing over summer for the uniform, please see the updated uniform and dress code policy below.
Please note the key differences between the past dress code and the current dress code are focussed on appropriate pants with regards to style and length, and a change of expectations for the Hoody/Jacket that students are able to wear.
The policy was created with input from a student uniform committee as well as consultation with the High School Student Council.
If you have any questions about the dress code, please direct these to Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th)
High School Uniform and Dress Code Policy
The High School uniform consists of the official ISB school uniform shirt in white or navy blue and either long pants or shorts in khaki or black. Students also have the option of wearing an ISB approved Hoodie/Sweatshirt with the school uniform. Footwear is not limited by color but must be a closed shoe style (flip flops and slides are not allowed)
ISB Shirts and pants can be purchased from the ISB bookstore. Pants and shorts may be purchased outside of the school and worn as school uniform so long as they are within the same design limitations of the school supplied pants and shorts. These limitations are as follows:
- Pants must be of an appropriate length. Appropriate is no shorter in length than ⅓ of the leg length taken from hip to knee, or no shorter than one’s fingertips when one’s arms are held extended at their side.
- Tighter style long pants are allowed, however, these must have a stitched outer seam and pockets. Lycra and spandex leggings are not allowed. When tighter long pants are worn they can be full leg, or finish mid-calf.
- Fabric must be of the same color tones that the official school pants/shorts (Black or khaki).
- The outside sourced pants must be free of advertising, for example, pants should not contain Brand Labelling such as ‘Nike’. Discrete branding is acceptable and as a guideline should be no greater than 1 cm in height and 2 cm in width of the same color stitching as the fabric.
The only hoodies/sweatshirts allowed as uniform are the official ISB Hoodies/Sweatshirts, which are available from the Booster Hut. Team, Club, House shirts can be worn on alternate dress days only.
On ALL school days, the following expectations are in place for students wearing the ISB uniform:
- Shorts, pants, and skirts must be pulled up to the waist – underwear should not be visible.
- Heels on shoes may not be more than 5 cm high.
- PE Shirts and Shorts must be worn only in PE, ISB PE clothing may not be worn as a substitute for school uniform clothing.
- Hats may not be worn in class or in the hallways.
Additionally, when after-school, at student organised events or during Alternate Dress Days, students must dress in a manner that is culturally sensitive and respectful to the host country and our diverse population. The following guidelines apply:
- Shirts and tops need to cover the shoulders and mid-section. (e.g. Tank tops with thin straps should not be worn)
- Pants should still remain the minimum length as described above.
- Clothing should be free of inappropriate language, references to alcohol or drugs, or other inappropriate content
Other guidelines for proper attire include:
- Students may wear stud earrings in one, or both, ear(s).
- Earrings or nose studs should not be distracting or present a safety risk.
- Tongue or other body piercing jewelry are not permitted.
- Bracelets or other jewelry should not be a distraction from learning.
The school administration reserve final judgment on issues related to dress code and appropriateness of attire.
Consequences for dress code violations are listed in the Recommended Sanctions for Behaviors Demonstrating Disrespect, Apathy, or Indifference.
