Consent Workshop for Parents – last Wednesday
Last Wednesday, members of our counseling team presented a workshop for parents: Safeguarding and Consent – Life beyond ISB
This well attended event focused on setting boundaries and fully understanding consent. We know that talking to students about this topic at every age is so important. Here is the presentation and a booklist for your reference. Please see one of our ES counselors if you have any questions about what Consent means in the elementary context.
Adolescents and Wellness: Strategies to Support Your Teen
Tuesday, February 5th in MPB 1 from 2:30-3:30
Wellness is a hot topic in schools across the world and personal wellness is a key factor in ensuring our students are prepared for their future. Research supports the need for strong wellness programs in schools across all grades. Join this session to understand some of the health and wellness needs of adolescents and how you can support your teen at home.
This workshop will be facilitated by Amy Smith who teaches Middle School Health at the Hong Kong International School and has a passion for curriculum that is current, relevant, and adaptable. She has presented at conferences in Asia as well as SXSWedu and the SHAPE America National Conventions, and serves as the Education Editor for Choices, Scholastic’s health magazine for teens. You can find her online at thehealthteacher.com and on twitter: @teaching_health.
ES Parent Engage – Thursday, February 7 – 7:45-9:15 in ES MPR
We will start with a presentation from our counseling team:
We want your child to be as successful as possible in school. Success is not only academic, but also knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. We use the “Second Step” program to teach these critical skills. Counselors will provide an overview of this Social Emotional Learning Program as it is taught in PK-Grade 5.
We will then move on to our Principals Forum and hear about 2 topics:
Technology
Technology is intentionally embedded in student learning at ISB, so that it is meaningful and also developmentally appropriate. What are our beliefs about screen time and technology? How might parents navigate this digital age and balance screen time at home?
Inclusion
ISB has been working for a number of years to expand our ability to serve students with diverse learning needs. How might this impact your child and their learning? How can you support your child in understanding and appreciating the diversity that they encounter at school and in the wider community?
Please join us!
