Celebration of MS Music

This past week we have been treated to terrific performances by our MS Band (on Tuesday) and MS Orchestra (on Thursday) programs. In both concerts, we saw great examples of the learning process through the middle school years. From the amazing short-term development of our beginner musicians to the polished sound and musicality of our concert and symphonic musicians, the growth was tangible and impressive – a real indication of the potential for growth during these formative years of adolescence.

It was particularly insightful that the directors shared aspects of the learning process in the concerts themselves. In band, we witnessed the many elements of Havana come together to make a complete band sound and we saw how adding conductor direction can really change the sound of a performance. In orchestra, we heard the richness of varied performance responsibilities as they took Twinkle Little Start to new musical heights.

Thank you and congratulations to our amazing directors, Adrianna Gricius, Kentaro Udagawa, and Brent Poling, along with their support teams on a terrific concert and more importantly, wonderful music learning throughout the year. And of course, well done to all of our MS musicians!

IF

– If you can find what makes you happy…

– If money was shared equally…

– If humans had gills…

– If the world was peaceful…

These are just a few of the dozens of “If’s” that artists in 2-D art explored this semester. Some artists worked in watercolor while others spent time with visiting artist, Jeff Ross, learning how to screen print.

Stop by the Main Library or Adminstration office to see this student created and curated display. IF is on exhibit from 6 December – 1 February.

Thank you to Phatsakorn (Ang) Buraphaphong (grade 7) for the poster image!

MS Snow Ball: Parent Help Needed

Dear parents of middle school students,

We are all looking forward to the upcoming Snow Ball and invite you to participate by volunteering your time to assist with the event. Specifically, we’ll need help in three areas: preparing some of the decorations ahead of time (Thursday afternoon), decorating the MPB room (Saturday at 3:30), and then cleaning up after the dance (Saturday at 8:00 PM).

If you are able to come to one (or more) of these times, you’ll get a sneak peek at the night AND you’ll be doing the kids and the planners a big favor. Please let us know if you can help by clicking here.
