Hopefully you feel that you have received good feedback from your son / daughter’s teachers at the conferences held this week. The teachers are gathering a body of evidence over the semester that they will use in determining the level of performance. Grade descriptors consist of characteristics of performance at each grade (7-1). Each course has these descriptors and if students or parents are unsure of what a score represents the teacher should be asked.
As counselors we wish to support continued growth both in academic attainment and the habits needed for students to experience success. If there is a concern that this is not happening then the teacher, and sometimes the counselor, will work with the student to determine the next steps to get back on the right track. Teachers are readily available for extra support after school (most days at 2:30 – 3:15) and sometimes during their preparation periods. In addition, we have the learning hub and library where we have certified staff to support in a variety of ways.
Unfortunately Mr. Davy was not available at the teacher conferences. If you would like to arrange a meeting with Mr. Davy, please contact our secretary (Kuhn Mai):

Freedom from Chemical Dependency Parent Presentation
On another important note, Freedom from Chemical Dependency will be on campus from October 9-11, meeting with our high school students. FCD is the leading international provider of school-based substance abuse prevention programs. FCD works worldwide to provide students and the adults who care for them with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to make intelligent and healthy choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
You are cordially invited to attend a meeting with FCD on Thursday, October 11 from 8:30-9:30am in MPB1. The FCD specialist will answer your questions, either general ones about drug and alcohol trends in the U.S. and international schools around the world, or about their impressions of the challenges that our own students face in terms of the personal choices they face here in Nichada and in greater Bangkok. Please come and participate!
