Parent-teacher conferences (and students too)
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents

A reminder that the HS Parent-teacher conferences take place on Friday in the Rajendra Gym and that you and your HS children are invited to join us in at either session 1 (7:30-11:15) or session 2 (12:00-14:30) for parent-teacher conferences. This is a non-instructional day for students, but students should accompany parents to the conferences on this day (uniforms are not required). When students attend the conferences with their parents it allows for them both to fully appreciate the strengths and to consider the areas for growth for the individual child. We look forward to seeing you on Friday.

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Spirited Week
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents

We all enjoyed a wonderful Spirit week which culminated today with our Black and Gold day and Spirit night. There was great joy and spirit this week as students and teachers joined together for the dress up theme days and participated in fashion shows, staff versus student-faculty matches, bobbed for apples and generally had a great time together. By the time this email reaches your inbox, the games and matches of our volleyball and football teams will have started, but you can still come past school to watch them play and enjoy the festivities at school.

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Overall Grade-to-date
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

Teachers will update PowerSchool on Friday September 28 with a Grade-to-date and HAL Grade for all students.  This Grade-to-date is on the 7-1 scale and is based on the ‘body of evidence’ of student work completed so far, with teachers using the Grade Descriptors and their professional judgement.  For your reference, the Grade Descriptors can be found inside the back cover of the Student Daily Planner.  Please note that this is the first assessment of the academic year, and is a ‘snapshot’ of achievement and may be based solely on 1 or 2 assessments.  The next grade update will occur on November 2.

Please also note that grades for Mr. Melhorn & Ms. Sliman will be updated next week.

School Counselors News
Kevin Callahan
kevinc@isb.ac.th

Dear ISB High School Parents,

Have you spoken with your student about what you’ll talk to the teachers about next Friday at the Parent – Teacher conferences?  It’s a good opportunity to communicate with your child about how school is going, what their concerns are, what they’re enjoying, etc.  This should give you some informed questions to ask the teachers when you discuss your child’s progress.  It’s about a lot more than grades!  We’ll see you next Friday the 5th.  Please note that one  of our counselors,

Mr. Davy, will be away that day at a conference.  The other counselors (Ms. Valenzuela and Mr. Callahan are available on that day or you can arrange a meeting with Mr. Davy through our secretary (Kuhn Mai):

Email: yaowarap@isb.ac.th  Phone: 02 963 5887

On another important note, Freedom from Chemical Dependency will be on campus from October 9-11, meeting with our high school students.  FCD is the leading international provider of school-based substance abuse prevention programs.  FCD works worldwide to provide students and the adults who care for them with the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to make intelligent and healthy choices about alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.

You are cordially invited to attend a meeting with FCD on Thursday, October 11 from 8:30-9:30am in MPB1.  The FCD specialist will answer your questions, either general ones about drug and alcohol trends in the U.S. and international schools around the world, or about their impressions of the challenges that our own students face in terms of the personal choices they face here in Nichada and in greater Bangkok.  Please come and participate!

Ban Rom Sai Orphanage Club

Becky Hansberry
beckyh@isb.ac.th

Sportswear and Soccer shoes Donations Needed!

Do you have any old sportswear and/or soccer shoes for children, that are not being used anymore? Would you like to donate them to support children with HIV?

Students supporting Ban Rom Sai Orphanage will be setting up a donation box in the ES and MS office to collect donations from October 1st to 5th. Here are the items that we would like for you to donate.

  1. Sportswear (shirts and shorts) for children aged 6~9
  2. Soccer shoes for children aged 6~9

The donation will go to children born with HIV in an orphanage called Ban Rom Sai. These children struggle to go out into the society where the prejudice and discrimination against those with HIV are still prevalent. However, sports is one way that they have been able to interact with people outside of their orphanage and show that they are no different than others, through playing games with other schools.

Right now, they are running out of sportswear and sports shoes. Unfortunately, they cannot afford these as they have to purchase the expensive anti-viral medicines for every child to take every day in order to suppress the onset of AIDS.

We would appreciate it if you could support these children at Ban Rom Sai orphanage by donating your child’s old sportswear and/or soccer shoes.

Thank you!
