 ‘A break’
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,

As this week’s edition of the HS ENews will be the last communication for the school year, I would like to share my sincere thanks and gratitude to all of our students and parents for a wonderful year at ISB. The spirit of the ISB community certainly shines through at school every day and the support and help we receive from our parent body is greatly appreciated by teachers and administration alike.

Currently, our Grade 9-11 students are sitting their final exams and I hope they are making the most of this opportunity in their review and in their exams to solidify and consolidate their learning from this year. Our Seniors finished their ISB HS career last weekend with a wonderful graduation ceremony and celebration and can now look forward to the next stage of their bright futures. I wish our Seniors all the best with whatever challenge they pursue next, whether that is college, a gap year or another endeavour. Congratulations Class of 2018.

To our departing students, families, and teachers, I wish you all the best with your move back home or to a new country and school. Please stay connected with your friends and the ISB community in the years ahead.  For our returning families and students, please enjoy the summer break, take time to be together and to follow your interests. Stay healthy and safe and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday 14th August 2018.

All the best
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Drivers Licenses and Summer Holidays
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

For families considering allowing their child to drive a motorbike or golf cart to school, only students with a valid driver’s license may drive/park a car on campus. The details of what is needed based on age and what you are driving can be found in this application form.

It is advisable for students to work on their license in the Summer Break so that they can legally drive to school and gain access to campus.

Golf carts must be operated safely and be affixed with a parking pass valid for the year of use. Stickers will be available at the start of the school year.

Uniform -Preparing for next School Year
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

As you leave for holidays we wanted to send a few updates about uniform for next year, which will be the last year of the current school uniform as we move to an updated design and fabric. Throughout next year there will be much consultation with families and students regarding the new uniform designs.

As a reminder, the current High School consists of the white or navy blue ISB collared shirt purchased through the ISB Bookstore and either khaki or black skirt, shorts, or pants purchased through the ISB bookstore or purchased outside of the school so long as they are within the same design limitations as the current school pants (e.g. no lycra/spandex). Pants must have side seams and need to have pockets. Please keep these limitations in mind when purchasing pants for next year over the summer break.

Please also note that for next year we will be moving to closed footwear for all HS students, this change is primarily due to safety and the risk of wearing open styled shoes. This means that all slippers and flip flop sandals (toe plug or not) are not acceptable school footwear and will not be permitted for students.

Please refer to the online student handbook for more information on the current uniform.

Report Cards
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

Report cards for semester 2 will be available on Powerschool from around 5pm on Friday 8th June.  If your child has not returned a book or have unpaid fees etc.  then a report card hold may be in place and you will receive an automated email to this effect.

Leavers from Grades 9 -11
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th
It is always sad to say farewell to a number of students from ISB next week and we wish them all the very best as they move on to their next adventure.

All these students MUST complete a Leavers Clearance form before important transition documents can be released to their new schools.  These forms can be collected from a student’s counselor and be returned with all signatures by Thursday 7th June.  If a student has misplaced their form they can see one of the counseling secretaries for a reprint.

If no Clearance Form is received a report card hold will be put in place and no transcript can be issued.  Thank you in advance for your assistance in expediting this process.

COLLEGE COUNSELING
Andrew Weiser
andreww@isb.ac.th

Once again, Congratulations to our Seniors as they are now alumni!

Grade 12: Final Transcripts and IB Results Service for Universities

All Seniors should have notified the counseling office of where final transcripts need to be sent (Canada, US, Hong Kong, etc.). Students should have also already notified the IB Office (see Khun Arintra’s email to students) about where IB scores should be sent in July.

Grade 12: Applicants to Australia, India, Korea, Japan

Grade 12 students still applying to university should communicate regularly and early with their college counselor on their applications to universities in these countries. A reminder that all documents needed for university applications must be requested through a transcript request form (found in the counseling office) at least 3 weeks before the university deadline.

Grade 11: Important Reminders

Seminars and essay writing sessions are now finished for the year. This is a time for students to focus on their end of year exams.

All students, with the help of their college counselor, should now have a thoughtful plan for their summer. Students and parents are always welcome to reach out to counselors in these final weeks as they finalize their summer plans.

Grade 10: Communication from College Counselors

Grade 10 families should plan to receive an email with some important communication that is forthcoming about testing, Naviance, college consultants, and some other important details.

Helping Teens Find Purpose

This is a nice little article, and may tie in to a few opportunities this summer:

CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service)
Becky Hansberry
beckyh@isb.ac.th

Starting next year, all Juniors will do CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service). This means that students will need to do at least one experience that is creative, one that is physically active, and one that is service oriented each year of both 11th and 12th grade. This replaces the current Physical Activity Requirement and the Community Service Requirement.  Only full IB Diploma students will be required to do a CAS project, but otherwise the expectations are the same regardless of the students’ academic program.

We will discuss the details of the CAS program with students at the beginning of the school year in August. In the meantime, please see this document if you would like more information about the rationale behind this policy and the details of the CAS program.

There are plenty of programs and activities at ISB to fulfill all of the CAS requirements, including clubs, activities, and athletics.  If Art and PE graduation requirements are met, students can take classes in those areas for CAS credit as well.  Students interested in CAS experiences outside of ISB will need to turn in a pre-approval form before they begin the experience.

Annual Medical Screening For Students
Sally Plomley
sallyp@isb.ac.th

It is the time of year when we need to start the medical screening process for ALL students.

We have modified the screening process so there is a basic medical screen for most students with a more extensive screen for students entering Grades 3, 6, 9 and 11 which includes a tuberculosis screen. Any student who has had a new student medical examination after January 2018 will not need a repeat examination. All students must fill in the Nurse Medication Consent form and Tuberculosis Symptom Screening form.

Forms are available for download from the ISB website. Link

Any student with Diabetes, Asthma or Anaphylaxis will also need an action plan filled out by the doctor. Theses Action Plans are available for download from the ISB website. ISB Health Services Forms and Resources.

If your child has regular medications that the nurse administers throughout the school day please also get the Prescription Medication Consent form filled out.

ALL FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE HEALTH CLINIC BY JUNE 30 2018 either in person or via email nurse@isb.ac.th. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

If you are attending a clinic you have not been to in the past you will also need your passport or Thai ID card. Many health insurance companies will cover annual medical screening for children.

The medicals examinations for students entering K and grades 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12 can now be done at the Aetna Family Clinic Nichada (with referral to the hospital if there are any issues). They can also be done at World Medical Center or Samitivej Hospital. All students entering grades 3, 6, 9 and 11 will need to attend Bumrungrad Hospital, World Medical Center, Samitivej Hospital or any other hospital/doctors surgery with appropriate facilities. Please note there may be additional fees required for equipment and if there are additional medical reviews or tests required due to abnormalities found during the examination. If the doctor is consulted about any other medical concerns, additional medical certificates are required (that are not the ISB Physical Examination Report) or vaccinations are recommended and given, there will be additional fees.
