Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school and to the last few weeks of the school year. Hopefully you will have read about the great successes and achievements of our IASAS athletes at the 3rd season competitions with 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals collected by our teams and returned to the Bangkok trophy cabinet this week.
Congratulations are also due to students involved in the Celebration of Service event on Tuesday night where over 160 people came together to celebrate the commitment and great work that our teachers and students do in the field of Community Service.
On Wednesday and Thursday night our student thespians were able to share eight one act plays in the HS Spring Production in our CCT. As usual the performances were of high quality and were humorous, adventurous, dramatic and above all enjoyable.
Our Senior students enjoyed their last day of formal classes on Monday before breaking for study leave in advance of their final exams. We wish them and their families all the best for their revision and exams and we look forward to celebrating their graduation from ISB on Saturday May 26th.

COLLEGE COUNSELING

Grades 9-12: Final College Counseling Parent Coffee
This Monday, May 7 the ISB College Counseling Department will host the final Parent Coffee of the year. Join us in the Large High School Conference Room from 8:00-9:00am when we will focus on higher education in Australia, Canada, and the Netherlands.
Grade 12: US F-1 Student Visa Meeting
All 12th grade students (and their parents) who plan to attend a US university in the fall and are not US citizens should plan to attend a presentation by the US Embassy on the student F-1 visa process May 2 at 2:45 in the Library.
Grade 12: Senior Parent Transition
Yesterday, the ISB HS Counseling department hosted a session for grade 12 parents about the transitions both seniors and their parents will be experiencing over the next few months. Find a copy of that presentation linked here.
Grade 12: Final Transcripts and IB Results Service for Universities
- All grade 12 students who need their IB scores sent to a university should have completed a form sent via their ISB student email account by the IB Office (Khun Arintra and Ms. Canobie). ISB cannot send IB scores to universities as these can only be sent by the IBO. If a student does not complete the form for the IBO Results Service, then they will have to wait until IB results are released in July and will then need to log on to their own account and send the scores to the university themselves. An email was sent in March to Seniors and again this week with directions.
- Many universities will also require a final transcript. All grade 12 students need to complete the graduation survey in Naviance AND complete the clearance form given to them the week of April 9. This is due no later than May 22. The survey and clearance form will guarantee that transcripts will be sent by the end of May/first of June to the university they plan to attend.
Grade 12: Applicants to Australia, India, Korea, Japan
Grade 12 students still applying to university should communicate regularly and early with their college counselor on their applications to universities in these countries. A reminder that all documents needed for university applications must be requested through a transcript request form (found in the counseling office) at least 3 weeks before the university deadline.
Grade 11: SAT Subject Tests
The deadline to register for June SAT Subject Tests is in one week. Students who have created a plan to take a Subject test with their college counselor should register by May 3.
Grade 10: College Night
All grade 10 parents and students should plan to attend the Grade 10 College Night on Thursday, May 3 at 6:30pm in the CCT.
Counseling News
Kevin Davy
kevind@isb.ac.th
Many parents wonder about the best times for their sons and daughters to take standardized tests which are used for university application/selection. Some start as early as 9th grade, and some parents become anxious when they aren’t doing the same as their children’s peers. Some thoughts to consider:
Taking the PSAT in 11th grade, and their first SAT in March of 11th grade, keeps students right on track for maximizing their scores. Take the second in May-June and third, if necessary, in fall of Senior year.
Data shows that students rarely increase their scores after the second try, and almost never after the third. Developmentally, it is much better to prep for a test designed for 11th and 12th graders when the student is closer to that age, and the curriculum of ISB in math and English will certainly be adding to their skills and ultimate scores. Plus, and maybe most importantly, there is no need to add further to students’ stress and anxiety about the future by making them study outside of school for a test two or three years down the line. Please consider these thoughts when thinking of your student’s future….. and present.
Grade 9
Soon students will have access to their final exam schedule on PowerSchool. The best form of preparation for these exams right now is focusing on what is being taught at present and preparing for the likely summative assessment that will take place between now and finals. Now would also be a time to visit teachers with any questions from prior topics that were difficult to grasp; this shouldn’t take place a few days prior to exams. Please encourage your son or daughter to do so.
As we all know, this is the time of year when temperatures and humidity are extremely high. It is important to keep encouraging hydration for both health and learning purposes. Keep Hydrated:)

Shelley Bragg, Director of Marketing, Communications and Alumni
shelleyb@isb.ac.th
We are excited and honored to announce the opening of Color Now, our student art exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) from May 1 – 13, 2018.
The exhibition brings together an exceptional selection of student work from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, taking advantage of a variety of visual mediums. It is a joyful celebration of diversity, creativity and color. It is the culmination one year’s worth of work by an extensive amount of students and staff at ISB. There are over 250 unique pieces being showcased.
BACC is the heart of Bangkok’s growing art scene and it features contemporary art, music, theatre, film, design and hosts cultural and educational events. Some exceptional artists have been on display there and it is a phenomenal opportunity for our students, and our school, to have work showcased on BACC walls. For more information about the BACC please visit their website: http://en.bacc.or.th/. For more information about the exhibition, please visit:www.isb.ac.th/colornow
The exhibition will be open to the public for the first two weeks of May 1st to the 13th.

Dear ISB Bands families,
Next year’s grade 6 band students will soon be hoping to purchase instruments for next year. Some will be looking for second-hand instruments to purchase.
If you have band instruments in good condition that you wish to sell (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto/tenor/baritone saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba and/or percussion kit), please contact <kentarou@isb.ac.th> and bring your instruments to the MS band rooms (#119 or 107, first floor in the Cultural Center) before Friday, May 11 for us to evaluate and give an estimated price. We will then send a list of available instruments to parents who are interested in purchasing second-hand instruments.
Please be advised that we are not able to guarantee that all instruments will be sold due to the condition or interested buyers.
If you have further questions, please feel free to write to <kentarou@isb.ac.th>.
