Dear ISB Parents,
I am writing to request your cooperation with the most important responsibility we all share – the safety of our children.
Although our Nichada location affords many benefits related to safety and security, it has become clear to all of us at ISB who focus on student safety that the journeys to and from ISB within Nichada are our most clear and present dangers. On a daily basis, we are witnessing behaviors that could cause serious injury or even a fatality.
The location that concerns us the most is the entrance to ISB adjacent to the Sports Complex (New Sport Complex Gate). We have children walking and cycling to school that face speeding vehicles, bicycle lanes blocked by cars, aggressive driving behaviors, and people ignoring directions from the ISB security guards. The situation is such a concern that a team of volunteer parents has been supporting the ISB guards at drop off and pick up times.
We are asking that this gate not be used as a zone for drop off or pick up. Vehicles should never be parked in a manner that blocks the bicycle lanes. This practice is dangerous both to those entering and exiting vehicles, but also to the pedestrians and bicyclists using the gates and bike lanes for which they are intended. Vehicles also should not be stopping in the middle of the road to let people out or board. Drop off and pick up are to take place exclusively on campus at the front of the school.
ISB is proud of our safety and security team. Each team member is a direct employee of the school and not contracted. These men and women are well-trained to fulfill their duties; guiding students at campus entrances, directing traffic, helping those in need of assistance, and enforcing school safety policies. They are polite, professional, and committed to child safety. It is expected that all students, parents, and family staff comply with security guard instructions at all times.
Please be aware that If we do not see a dramatic reduction in the amount of near misses or non compliance with the communicated rules, ISB will be compelled to close the New Sport Complex Gate in the interests of student safety.
Please share this information with your children, all members of your family, and any domestic employees that drop off or collect your children. It is of the utmost importance that all those traveling to and from ISB understand and fully comply with our safety policies. This message is translated into Thai here.
Sincerely,
Dr. Andrew Davies
