MS Principal’s Forum – April 3

Middle School Administration is hosting our final Principal’s Forum in MPB 3 at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, April 3rd.

We will focus our attention on the concerns raised by parents with the PTA representatives. We will summarize the meeting in the next eNews.

Hope to see you there.

Special showing for Parents of Screenagers – Growing up in the Digital Age

The MS and HS Counseling Offices are pleased to host a special screening for parents of the award-winning film, “Screenagers – Growing Up in the Digital Age.” The film has been purchased by ISB for this showing and is most suitable for parents with middle and/or high school students.

The showing will be on Monday, April 9th, in MPB 1, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.

“Screenagers” probes into the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how we can help our kids navigate the digital world.

After the viewing there will be a brief presentation and an opportunity for discussion.

If You Know you are Leaving ISB

Families who are leaving ISB at the end of the school year are asked to inform the school as soon as possible using the official Notice of Withdrawal Form. This helps us prepare school records for your child and with planning for next year. Completed forms can be dropped off at the MS Office.

Opportunity for Food Service Feedback

The ISB Food Committee will be meeting in May and we are looking for parent input for the topics to be discussed. This is your opportunity to give feedback if there are areas of concern or questions about the food provided to ISB students. Please email questions or concerns to your PTA Community Representative or PTA coordinator before Wednesday April 25. Topics will be compiled and submitted to Khun Usa, ISB Headmistress, to be addressed in the Food Committee Meeting. Please email the Middle School Coordinators at mscoord@isb.ac.th.

The PTA coordinators will attend this meeting and hear responses to parent questions and concerns. Our purpose is to facilitate communication between the school, the cafeteria management, and parents. While we know all wishes cannot be granted due to various constraints, we value all parent concerns and, like all parents, expect ISB and Epicure to provide nutritious and appealing food in the cafeteria, while staying current with products available in Thailand.

Repeat Announcement: Spring MAP testing dates

by Cindy Plantecoste, MS Dean of Academics

Between April 2 and April 27, MS students will take the NWEA Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) test in Math and Reading, during their Math and English classes. Students in Grades 7 and 8 will take their tests during the two weeks prior to spring vacation, while Grade 6 students will take their tests between Tuesday and Friday of the week following the break.

The MAP test is a computer-based test in either Reading or Math, that assesses students on each question, adjusting subsequent questions to determine appropriate challenge and provide a snapshot of what the student can do at that time of year.

Students will be given a full class period to complete each MAP test. For students who aren’t able to finish their test in the allocated time, we will provide for an after-school session for students to complete their test.

While the test is not timed, the NWEA offered that 60 minutes should be enough time for most students. Between the class time and the afterschool extended time, students will have close to 110 minutes to complete the test. (Last year, we implemented this time frame. The results from that session indicate that there was no impact on student performance to limit the time to the two sessions, as there was still plenty of time.)

Repeat Announcement: Native Language Survey for Parents—Open Through March 31

As part of ISB’s Strategic Learning Plan (ISB 2025), a group of faculty is considering the role of native languages on our campus. We would deeply appreciate your opinion. Please look for the Native Language Parent Survey in your email (one was sent per family) and take a moment to complete it. It will be open for responses until March 31, 2018. We hope to hear from parents throughout our community, regardless of which languages you speak. Many thanks!

If you have not received this survey or it went to your Spam, kindly email nativelanguage@isb.ac.th
