Songkran Assembly
Our students will participate in our annual Songkran Assembly on Thursday Apr. 12. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Opportunity for Food Service Feedback
The ISB Food Committee will be meeting in May and we are looking for parent input for the topics to be discussed. This is your opportunity to give feedback if there are areas of concern or questions about the food provided to ISB students. Please email questions or concerns to your PTA Community Representative or PTA coordinator before Wednesday April 25. Topics will be compiled and submitted to Khun Usa, ISB Headmistress, to be addressed in the Food Committee Meeting. Please email the Elementary School Coordinators at escoord@isb.ac.th
The PTA coordinators will attend this meeting and hear responses to parent questions and concerns. Our purpose is to facilitate communication between the school, the cafeteria management, and parents. While we know all wishes cannot be granted due to various constraints, we value all parent concerns and, like all parents, expect ISB and Epicure to provide nutritious and appealing food in the cafeteria, while staying current with products available in Thailand.

(Repeat) The 5th Grade Book Sale (Thursday/Friday May 3rd/4th)
We’re back again! The 5th grade book sale is a yearly sale put on by the 5th graders with the help of the teachers, IAs, and parents. We are collecting books now through April for the sale.
The Funds raised from this charity go to the Mercy Centre in Klong Toey. It helps pay for the education for many underprivileged kids who cannot afford school supplies, tuition and uniforms. Last year we raised more than 100,000 baht, so of course this year we would like to beat that amount! Please start sending books and magazines to school with your child, or you may drop them off in the box outside of the ES Office.

(Repeat) Beginning Band Drive on Saturday, April 28
Date: Saturday, April 28, 2018
Time: 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Location: MS Band Room (4-107) on the first floor of the Cultural Center (CC)
On Saturday, April 28, ISB will hold its annual Beginning Band Drive for current grade 5 students who have signed up for band next year, and current grade 4 students who wish to take private lessons next year on a band instrument. During the Beginning Band Drive, students can try out many different band instruments with the help of experts to find out which instrument they may enjoy and which instrument best suits them. Band instruments include: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion (drums and mallets).
The ISB Middle School Band program has a reputation as being one of the finest in international schools. This year for the 8th year in a row, and for the 11th out of the past 12 years, ISB has sent more students than any other school to the prestigious AMIS Asian Middle School Honor Band Festival. Student musicians audition for this festival through a rigorous blind audition process, competing with all other IASAS schools as well as international schools in South Korea, China and Japan. Students that were accepted have performed in many countries in Asia and Europe.
To take part in the Beginning Band Drive on April 28, please sign up using the Google form that can be found linked here. It includes specific time/sign-up information. Finding the right instrument that best suits your child is a very important process.
If you have questions, please feel free to email Brent Poling <brentp@isb.ac.th>.
Best regards,
Brent Poling and Kentaro Udagawa

(Repeat) Native Language Survey for Parents—Open Through March 31
As part of ISB’s Strategic Learning Plan (ISB 2025), a group of faculty are considering the role of native languages on our campus. We would deeply appreciate your opinion. Please look for the Native Language Parent Survey in your email (one was sent per family) and take a moment to complete it. It will be open for responses until March 31, 2018. We hope to hear from parents throughout our community, regardless of which languages you speak. Many thanks!
If you have not received this survey or it went to your Spam, kindly email nativelanguage@isb.ac.th
Sincerely,
ISB Native Language Faculty Committee
(Repeat) NaNoWriMo – Publishing Deadline Approaching!
Did your child write a novel in November? Are you still planning to publish their book but not quite made it that far yet? If so, please be reminded that the deadline for completing the publishing process is fast approaching (the Songkran break). You and your child can get help with publishing here:
https://inside.isb.ac.th/mstech/2017/12/06/publishing-your-nanowrimo-work/
Please feel free to email Phil (phila@isb.ac.th) with any questions.
(Repeat) If You Know you are Leaving ISB
Families who are leaving ISB at the end of the school year are asked to inform the school as soon as possible using the official Notice of Withdrawal Form. This helps us prepare school records for your child and with planning for next year. Completed forms can be dropped off at the ES Office.
(Repeat) Class Placement Process for 2018-19
Parents who would like to give us information to consider for class placement in 2018-19 are welcome to do so. Please pick up a form in the Counseling Office starting Monday, March 19. The forms are due back in the Counseling Office by Friday, April 6.
Please note: Parents may not request specific teachers. This form asks for learning and educational information regarding your child. For parents who are unable to come in to pick up a form, please contact the Counseling Secretary at kunlawan@isb.ac.th for an electronic copy.
(Repeat) ES PE Swimming
Our swimming unit in PE is just around the corner. We have a total of three sessions of swimming times for Elementary School. Please see the schedule below for all swimming sessions.
Students will be participating in a swimming and water safety unit as part of the Elementary Physical Education Program. This unit is designed to promote knowledge and skills in the areas of personal water safety, fundamental strokes, and simple water rescues. There will be three swimming specialists along with Corry Day, I.S.B.’s Aquatics Director, assisting the PE teacher with the swimming unit. We will also have a lifeguard on deck during every class.
The program is designed to help meet the needs of all of the students, and is based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Students will be screened and placed in a level that is developmentally appropriate based upon his or her current swimming ability.
What to bring to PE:
Swimsuit, towel, and goggles clearly marked with the student’s name to every PE lesson. Girls are requested to wear a one-piece swimsuit. UV (rash) protective shirts are permitted, but rash shirts need to be properly fitted, as loose rash shirts inhibit swimming efficiency. Should a student forget to bring a swimsuit, towel, or goggles, a loaner will be provided to the student for the day and this will need to be returned at the end of class.
Students with long hair need to wear a swim cap or tie their hair back for each lesson. We encourage students to bring their own sunscreen if they so desire.
Because students will have an alternative P.E. lesson should the weather prevent them from swimming, they need to come in their normal P.E. attire to each lesson including athletic shoes and socks. Students may bring crocs or sandals in their swim bag should they choose to wear them after swimming class.
Swimming is a part of the I.S.B. Physical Education curriculum and full participation is expected. Any student who is unable to participate in class must inform the PE teacher in writing or via e-mail. If no notification is received prior to their Physical Education class, they will be expected to participate.
