ALL HIGH SCHOOL
Summer Enrichment Programs – It’s that time of year when families are starting to think about their summer plans. It’s an ideal time for students to do things they normally cannot do during the school year: travel, spend time with family, cultivate an interest in a new field, pursue volunteer opportunities, or attend summer programs. When it comes to admissions to colleges and universities, participating in summer programs is not a requirement or expectation. Any institution wants to know what a student is curious about, what motivates them, and are they willing to seek out those interests. For students who are interested in a structured summer enrichment program, ISB has a great database of opportunities that can be accessed here. Search based on the subject or the location. Although some summer program deadlines may have past, there are still many available.
If a student would like to apply to a summer program, they should schedule a time with their school or college counselor to discuss the application requirements and deadlines. Students should complete a form in our office giving us more information about the program so that we can best support the student in their application. Recommendations and official transcripts can only be sent directly to an institution.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
Student Led Junior Conference are wrapping up!! – It has been great meeting with Grade 11’s and their parents. These meetings started in February and are ongoing through March, students and their parents will be meeting with college counselors to start planning for life after graduation. Parents or students can schedule this meeting for approximately 1 hour. We prefer that both parents attend this meeting. The Junior Assignment (University Research, Resume, Parent Perspectives and Power Point) needs to be completed before this meeting can be scheduled.

Course selections are now completed for the coming school year. We hope the students and families took the time to review, plan, and discuss options. Hopefully students will get the exact program that they hope for, but there are always slight adjustments that need to be done for a best-fit for everyone involved. Those fine-tunings will take place later in the year, so no need to worry or second-guess your selections at this point.
We are starting to see fatigue kick in at this time of year with some of our students. This can be due to efforts put forth towards school, an extra notch on the heat index, and a number of different factors. It is important at these times to maintain a “healthy engine”, concentrating on good sleep, exercise, and nutrition. Please keep promoting this as the good parents that you are.
Interested in an internship this summer? ISB offers a Summer Internship Program as part of its Summer School Program. The program runs the first two weeks after regular school ends (June 11-22), and students also do pre-internship seminars in interview skills and resume-writing, with a day of wrap-up and reflection back at school at the conclusion of the internship. If you are interested in the program for your son or daughter, have them stop by the High School office in the Counseling area and pick up a form (no obligation) from Khun Mai or come talk with Mr. Duffy (in room 306).
