MS Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences next week
by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
On Thursday and Friday, March 15-16, we will host our MS Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences. We include the “Student” in the title to highlight the importance of your child attending the conferences with you to be part of the conversation and learning feedback of the day. Please note, other than conferences, your child does NOT have regular school for these two days.
By now you should have signed up for one of the two-hour blocks in which you can see all of your child’s teachers in an arena format. We have gone to this format in recent years to provide greater access to ALL of your child’s teachers, as well as to provide better balance of time spent by teachers and parents.
While we try to manage wait time by limiting the number of parents in any given session, there can still be significant wait times at some teacher’s tables. We encourage those teachers to be mindful of the time they are taking with any single conference. We ask that as parents, you also monitor that to help make sure you get to see everyone. If you require more than a 5 minute check in with the teacher, it’s is worth setting up a more lengthy appointment.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday or Friday in support of your child’s learning.
Grade 8 Parents – Information from 8-9 Transition Presentation
by Kevin Davy
kevind@isb.ac.th
This Thursday high school counselors gave a high school transition / course registration presentation. Students have already been met with on two separate occasions covering very similar information.
A video tutorial will be sent to students walking them through the online registration. The registration window is March 14 -20. School Counselors will also be available during Middle School Lunch, positioned at a table to answer any follow up questions during that window.
Below are some links that should be helpful. If your student or yourself have any further questions after looking over the materials. Students can see a counselor in the lunch room or you can look to schedule an appointment with one of the school counselors (Mr. Callahan, Ms. Valenzuela, or Mr. Davy). To do so you should contact Kuhn Mai in the counseling office: yaowarap@isb.ac.th

Visit from Award Winning Author Neal Shusterman
Today ISB MS students were treated to a wonderful Q&A session with award-winning Young Adult Fiction author, Neal Shusterman. Mr. Shusterman answered questions from MS students ranging from the writing process to his influences and inspirations to what the process is like for books being made into films.
Mr. Shusterman engaged our students with wonderful stories, a terrific connection with his audience, and genuine sharing of his experience as a writer, reader, and follower of his passion. Our students got to hear about the hard work it takes to achieve excellence, and the power of enduring rejection, growing from constructive feedback, and persisting through difficulty.
It was exciting to work with such a inspiring role model. Thank you to our librarians: Traci Marlowe and Chris Bell for making this terrific experience a reality for our MS students.

NBBL Scorekeeping/Timekeeping opportunity for students in Grades 7-12
As we have in past years, NBBL (North Bangkok Basketball League) will hire Grade 7-12 students to be scorekeepers and timekeepers for NBBL games.
The games will take place on Friday evenings and Saturdays at the ISB gyms. This is a great opportunity for Grade 7-12 students to earn their own money and learn the responsibility of a work situation. The students will earn between THB 200 and 300 per game. In order for the students to be eligible to work at these games, all students (including those who have been scorekeepers/timekeepers in the past) must register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdbSskP5he8wSknrnjs_YpGc8zpjpZq3PI4gX3O5Mr18sUKjQ/viewform
There is a MANDATORY training session for any student who did NOT work as a scorekeeper/timekeeper last season. This training will take place either on Sunday, March 11th at 3:00PM in the ES MPR room or on Monday, March 12th at 6:30PM in ES MPR. The sessions will last about an hour. Students are only required to attend one of the sessions, but you MUST register in advance. You can’t just show up without registering.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, please consult our NBBL website at http://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for information. This is where we will post calendar information, schedules, team listings, etc.
