‘Conferences and Conventions’
Justin Alexander
justina@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
We wish our travelling cultural convention participants all the best this weekend as they perform and compete in the annual IASAS Cultural Conventions held in Taipei, Singapore and Manila. This is a wonderful opportunity for our thespians, musicians, dancers, artists, techies, debaters and forensics’ members to come together with their peers from other IASAS schools in their chosen field. Good luck to you all.
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences:
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will be held from 7:30 – 2:30 pm (Lunch -11:15- 12:00 pm) on Friday March 16th in Rajendra Hall. This will be an important time to discuss the semester two progress of your child(ren) with teachers and counselors.
The conferences in March are a great opportunity for students and parents to speak with their teachers about course selections for the following school year. This is particularly important for students moving from Grade 10 to 11 as they have to make a greater number of decisions.
With this in mind it is strongly recommend that both parents and students attend the conferences together and come with two outcomes in mind, current progress and future course choices. Please be aware that if you have a choice in the time you attend, the afternoon session from 12:00 – 14:30 is generally less busy than the morning session.
Have a great long weekend.
Regards
Justin Alexander

Grade 10 Course Selection Evening – Tuesday 6th March 6:30pm Chevron & MPB
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th
Please save the evening to come along with your grade 10 child to speak with grade 11 course teachers about the different options available in grade 11.
The transition from grade 10 to 11 is the time when students have the most choice available about what courses they can study. It can prove to be hard to make these choices and we hope that having the opportunity to talk to teachers will help that decision to be an informed one.
Please come along! The evening will begin with a presentation in the Chevron Theatre and we will then move to the MPB.

News from HS College Counselors

ALL HIGH SCHOOL
Summer Enrichment Programs – It’s that time of year when families are starting to think about their summer plans. It’s an ideal time for students to do things they normally cannot do during the school year: travel, spend time with family, cultivate an interest in a new field, pursue volunteer opportunities, or attend summer programs. When it comes to admissions to colleges and universities, participating in summer programs is not a requirement or expectation. Any institution wants to know what a student is curious about, what motivates them, and are they willing to seek out those interests. For students who are interested in a structured summer enrichment program, ISB has a great database of opportunities that can be accessed here. Search based on the subject or the location. Do note that many have application deadlines in March.
If a student would like to apply to a summer program, they should schedule a time with their school or college counselor to discuss the application requirements and deadlines. Students should complete a form in our office giving us more information about the program so that we can best support the student in their application. Recommendations and official transcripts can only be sent directly to an institution.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
It’s Time To Schedule The Student Led Junior Conference – During the month of February and March, 11th grade students and their parents will be meeting with college counselors to start planning for life after graduation. Parents or students can schedule this meeting for approximately 1 hour. We prefer that both parents attend this meeting. The Junior Assignment (University Research, Resume, and Parent Perspectives) needs to be completed before this meeting can be scheduled.
Grade 10 Course Selection – In March, 10th grade students will be choosing their courses for 11th and 12th graders. To help students make the most informed decisions, College Counselors will meet with 10th graders on March 5 and 6 during the school day to discuss their options and plans as it may relate to their college and university interests.
Grade 10 College Night – On May 3 College Counselors will host a Grade 10 College Night for students and parents. This session will introduce the College Counselors and their role during Grade 11 and 12 in the University process. Standardized testing will also be discussed. More information to come.
University Visits– for a full list of who is coming, please subscribe to the Google Calendar at this link.
NBBL Scorekeeping/Timekeeping opportunity for students in Grades 7-12
Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com
As we have in past years, NBBL (North Bangkok Basketball League) will hire Grade 7-12 students to be scorekeepers and timekeepers for NBBL games.
The games will take place on Friday evenings and Saturdays at the ISB gyms. This is a great opportunity for Grade 7-12 students to earn their own money and learn the responsibility of a work situation. The students will earn between THB 200 and 300 per game.. In order for the students to be eligible to work at these games, all students (including those who have been scorekeepers/timekeepers in the past) must register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdbSskP5he8wSknrnjs_YpGc8zpjpZq3PI4gX3O5Mr18sUKjQ/viewform
There is a MANDATORY training session for any student who did NOT work as a scorekeeper/timekeeper last season. This training will take place either on Sunday, March 11th at 3:00PM in the ES MPR room or on Monday, March 12th at 6:30PM in ES MPR. The sessions will last about an hour. Students are only required to attend one of the sessions, but you MUST register in advance. You can’t just show up without registering.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, please consult our NBBL website at http://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for information. This is where we will post calendar information, schedules, team listings, etc.
Thanks,
Kevin Sypolt
