Makha Bucha Day Holiday and Professional Learning Day

No school for students on Mar. 1 and 2.  

Thursday March 1st is Makha Bucha Day. It is a Professional Day for teachers.  Friday March 2nd is ISB Holiday. No school for students on both days. Classes will resume on Monday March 5th.  It will be a ‘C’ day.

Grade 5 Musical “The Stonecutter” Remaining Tickets!

Tickets are going fast for the Grade 5 musical, “The Stonecutter!” Tickets will continue to be on sale in front of the Chevron from 2-3 pm on Monday, February 19th. If any tickets remain after that, they will be sold at the door during the two performances on Wednesday, February 21st at 3:30 pm and Thursday, February 22nd at 6:30 pm.

ISB Celebrates International Mother Language Day

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, and throughout the week of Feb. 18-24, ISB is celebrating International Mother Language Day. The purpose of IMLD is to promote linguistic diversity and multilingualism. Teachers throughout the school have looked at ways to explore and affirm our students’ native languages. Here is a poster with the word ‘together’ in the languages represented on ISB’s student body—about 40! Test yourself: how many can you identify? Happy International Mother Language Day!

ES String Orchestra

The ES String Orchestra will start rehearsals on Monday, March 5th at 2:30-3:30 in the CC building, room 123. If your child participated in the String Orchestra last year, they are automatically enrolled for the spring semester.

If any Grade 3, 4 or 5 student would like to join that was not in it last semester, please fill out this registration.

The ES String Orchestra is a great opportunity for your child to further develop their musicianship, work with other students, and play in a group setting.

The Book Fair is Back!

The ISB ES book fair will be back during ES Student Led Conferences on March 15 and 16.  Leading Bangkok books stores will be present including Asia Books, Kinokuniya and Mambooks 53.  Stop by the HUB or ES MPR from 7:00am-3:30pm.

Next Parent Engage- ES Principal Forum & Workshop on Screentime – YOUR Input is Needed!

Our next ES Parent Engage will be Thursday March 8 at 7:45 in the ES Multi-Purpose Room. This session will include:

  • An ES Principal Forum
  • A workshop on balancing screen time with family time with Technology Director Chad Bates and Vice Principal Sarah Fleming.  This learning will include recent research and practical strategies to use at home.   

During the Principal Forum, our ES administrators will address your questions and concerns. Any topics are very welcome so that we can help you better understand the elementary school. And, parents have great ideas! So you are very welcome to bring us areas of concern and suggestions!

The 5th Grade Book Sale (Thursday/Friday May 3rd/4th)

We’re back again! The 5th grade book sale is a yearly sale put on by the 5th graders with the help of the teachers, IAs, and parents.  We are collecting books now through April for the sale.

The Funds raised from this charity go to the Mercy Centre in Klong Toey.  It helps pay for the education for many underprivileged kids who cannot afford school supplies, tuition and uniforms.  Last year we raised more than 100,000 baht, so of course this year we would like to beat that amount!  Please start sending books and magazines to school with your child, or you may drop them off in the box outside of the ES Office.

ES Explore (ES After School Activities)

This Semester’s ES Explore program will begin on Monday, February 19th.

Confirmations of ES Explore placement are available online. Please log in to your child’s Powerschool page, click Activities (on the left Bar) and then you’ll be able to see the confirmed activities and the location.

ES ASA locations and availability will be posted daily outside the CAO (near the Bookstore) as from Monday, February 19th.  

There are still limited spaces available in some of our ES Explore. You can still register at the CAO but don’t delay! Remember, once the ES Explore schedule begins there are NO REFUNDS however, you may change your choice once it is before the third session.

U10 PANTHER CUBS – GIRLS BASKETBALL CLUB – TRYOUTS AND SIGN UP

The Community Activities Office (CAO) at ISB is excited to announce the return of the U10 Panther Cubs Basketball Club! This developmental team for girls will have the opportunity to train weekly, develop skills, and play some competitive matches versus other schools.

Tryouts for the U10 girls program will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 3:40-5:00 in the ES A/C gym. At this time we are running basketball club for girls only. ISB’s Athletic Director, Mr. Quinet, will be the head coach.

TRYOUT:   CUBS BASKETBALL CLUB – U10 GIRLS
Eligibility:  Girls who were under 10 years of age as of Sept. 1, 2017.
Date:             Wednesday, February 28
Venue:          ES A/C Gym
Time:             3:40-5:00pm

SELECTIONS
Team selections will be based primarily on basketball skills and understanding, coachability and attitude, effort and athletic ability. Each student will be given a fair and equitable opportunity to showcase these attributes. The final roster size will not be larger than twelve, and may be less to ensure everyone on the team can grow, thrive, and enjoy the program.

The selection process is always difficult, and we will endeavor to assess each player’s ability to succeed within the program. Not everyone who tries out may make the team. The coach will provide feedback to any players/parents who are not selected and identify their skills and areas of need.

The results from the tryout on Wednesday, Feb. 28 will be emailed out to parents, along with invitations to join the first practice session on Wed., March 7. Fees will be due once parents/players confirm.

GAMES
Games will be scheduled once the team is adequately prepared. The Panther Cubs will have the opportunity to play with teams from Harrow and NIST/Top Flight, Shrewsbury, and possibly others, both home and away. We will try to schedule games on Wednesdays during the regular practice time, however some games may be scheduled on Sundays/weekends. Advance notice will be given.

Practices:  Wednesdays, 3:40-5:00 ES A/C Gym.
Dates:          March 7, 14, 21, 28
                        April 11, 25
                        May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30  (11 weeks)

Cubs Basketball Club FEE – 8000 BHT
Players who are selected will pay a fee of 8000 BHT to the CAO. Players will receive a uniform, a warm-up/team shirt, and other team related items/equipment. All of the money received in fees will go back into team apparel, equipment, transportation, and an end-of-season celebration.

The ES Panther Choir and Orff Ensemble will start rehearsals on Wednesday, March 7th at 2:35-3:35 in the MS Choir room of the CC building. If your child participated in the Panther Choir/Orff Ensemble last semester, he/she is automatically enrolled again for the Spring.

If any Grade 3, 4 or 5 student would like to join that was not in it last semester, please fill out this registration. If your child is already a part of the ES Panther Choir/Orff Ensemble, you do NOT need to register again for the Spring.

(Repeat) ES Report Cards

Trimester 2 Report Cards will be ready to view or download through Powerschool on Friday February 23 at 2pm.  In Trimester 2, the ES report card measures learning in all areas. There are no comments given in Trimester 2.  The report card in Trimester 3 will contain both measures and comments from teachers.

You will need your log-in details for Powerschool to access your child’s report card.  If you experience difficulty, or you cannot remember your log-in details, please contact our Ed Tech department at help@isb.ac.th .

(Repeat) Upcoming Student-Led Conferences – March 15 and 16

Our annual Student-Led conferences are coming up on March 15 and 16.   More information will come to you when we are closer to this date, but as a head’s up for new parents, there is no school on these dates for ES students.  However, students will be involved in their conference time on one of the two dates.

(Repeat) Road Safety Parent Meeting- Friday February 23

Road Safety is a hot topic and we know you have something to say, questions to ask, ideas to share. The parent initiative to ensure safety and care on the roads in the ISB School Zone has been very successful these last 2 weeks. And it has people talking! All parents are welcome to join the conversation on Friday February 23 at 8:00am (Location to be determined). We are a very knowledgeable and capable community and we invite all of you to share experiences, ask questions, and offer ideas to resolve issues we are facing in regards to traffic and road safety.

Administrators will be available to answer questions and address concerns. Please email Katie Edsall at escoord@isb.ac.th with questions you have.

Please mark your calendars and attend this meeting to be better informed and be a part of finding solutions that promote child safety.

Cost is 5,000 baht for a 6 week (12 class) session (K-5)
Cost is 4,500 baht for a 6 week (12 class) session (pre K)

(Repeat) After School Supervision

Any elementary school student on campus outside of regular school hours, who are not participating in a school sponsored event, must be actively supervised by an adult in charge, appointed by the family. This includes being in the elementary Learning Hub (library).
