On Standards Based Reporting

by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

Each year, we deliver a parent session on the why’s, ins, and outs of Standards Based Reporting. We have found that the sessions are helpful each year for parents new to this form of reporting and more accustomed to traditional grading practices, like averaging, percentages, and letter grades (A-F).

Of course, not all of our community is able to attend sessions offered during the work day and our attempts to offer evening sessions have been poorly attended (it’s hard to leave family after a long work day to join a school session).

For this reason, we’ve prepared the video below with slides and audio to take parents through the general ideas around Standards Based Reporting and why ISB and so many schools favor it over traditional practices.

Apologies in advance for the minimal effects or production value. The goal was simply to provide information and explanation in a direct and straightforward manner.

Repeat Announcement: Road Safety Parent Meeting- Friday February 23

Road Safety is a hot topic and we know you have something to say, questions to ask, ideas to share. The parent initiative to ensure safety and care on the roads in the ISB School Zone has been very successful these last 2 weeks. And it has people talking! All parents are welcome to join the conversation on Friday February 23 at 8:00am (Location to be determined). We are a very knowledgeable and capable community and we invite all of you to share experiences, ask questions, and offer ideas to resolve issues we are facing in regards to traffic and road safety.

Administrators will be available to answer questions and address concerns. Please email Katie Edsall at escoord@isb.ac.th with questions you have.

Please mark your calendars and attend this meeting to be better informed and be a part of finding solutions that promote child safety.

Repeat Announcement: NBBL Community basketball registration is now open

NBBL community basketball registration is now open.  We have leagues for boys and girls ages PK through Grade 12.  But registration will close on Friday, February 23rd so please register now.  Once teams are formed, it highly unlikely new players will be permitted to register.

The fee is THB 6,000 for all players (the fee will increase by THB 500 for late registrations).   Players do NOT need to be ISB students but all games and practices take place at ISB.  This fee will cover costs for a player jersey, Top Flight Academy coaches, referee and scorekeeper fees, ISB fees and photography expenses.  Our fee is higher this season as we will use Top Flight Academy to provide coaches for each team.  If a parent chooses to coach, their child’s fee will be reduced to THB 3,600.

League assessments will take place on Sunday, February 25th at ISB gyms.  See attached for the assessment schedule.

Team practices will begin the week starting March 6th.  We will NOT have large clinic practices this year.  All teams will practice as a team once per week, either on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

League play will take place on Saturdays and begin on March 17th.  Games will continue every Saturday (except for Songkran break) and conclude the weekend of May 18th/19th with league championships.

Payment for the NBBL season can be made at the ISB Community Activity Office (CAO) which is located next to the bookstore at ISB.  The CAO is open from 7:00 to 11:00AM and 12:00 to 3:00PMMonday – Friday.

Please go to the NBBL website here for the link to our registration system and for other important information.
