Message from the Principal

Justina@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to you and your families after the break and I trust the first week back at school was a positive one for your children. The months of January and early February are busy ones with upcoming IASAS events including basketball which we are hosting and of course GCW for all High School students which takes place in February. You will hear more about these events in the weeks ahead, but do keep your calendars open and ready to mark in these exciting school and community events. One event to mark in now is the next HS PTA meeting scheduled for Thursday January 25th. Enjoy the weekend and the cooler weather.

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

Excusing Absences

Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

As a reminder for semester two, any absence for HS students should be excused by parents via a phone call to the HS Attendance secretary, Khun Gade 02 963 5883 (ext. 3305). It is appreciated if this phone call can be received before 8.30am so that we can alert teachers early.

It is important that we receive this parental contact, because without it, your child is marked as absent (X).  Unexcused absences may result in additional on consequences.

You can see whether your child has been marked absent (X) on any day using PowerSchool.  If we receive confirmation from parents that the absence is excused, then we adjust the code to reflect that (AbE). Please help us to ensure we best understand reasons for your child missing school.

Please also note if a student misses a class during the day, they may not participate in co-curricular activities on that day without prior approval from the Dean of Students.

For extended absences, parents should email counsellors and also copy in Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th) and Khun Gade(sasivimb@isb.ac.th) for approval.

School Counselors Newsletter – January 12, 2018

We are back moving!! Our students have been oiling their wheels and getting back into routines this week. Maybe the most challenging routine getting out of bed a wee bit (or a lot) earlier!!

Quite a few students have been dropping in for adjustments to their schedules. All students have until next Wednesday January 17th to request a potential change. We try to accommodate as best as possible but sometimes at this point in the year the constraints of schedule do not allow us to fulfill all requests. One consideration for transferring students is the science course they are taking. We had discussed last semester that if a student is transferring and if they know the school they might attend, then they should look at its requirements for science.

In regards to transferring schools, a lot of private schools in the U.S have deadlines during January and February. We have already received several for those who might or are transferring. February 1st is a popular deadline for some schools. If you are looking at a school with this deadline then your family should contact Kuhn Fon our registrar in the counseling office immediately for setting up transfer of documents. In addition, all teachers and counselors should be informed of any required recommendations immediately, thus providing adequate time for a quality response.

Sarahah app – Potentially a very unhealthy application for our teens

A new buzz app teenagers and preteens may be using is Sarahah. It is similar to ASKFM where others can post anonymous questions and comments.  As you can imagine, some of these comments can be hurtful, sexualized, intrusive… leading to cyberbullying and further angst. Below are a couple of links giving more information and urging parents to vigilant in regards to

Hopefully the second semester has started well for your sons and daughters. The first month of the second semester is really hectic, with IASAS competitions, 3rd season tryouts, and GCW all coming in successive weeks.  Organization is key for keeping up!  We’re looking forward to a great semester with your sons and daughters!  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact your student’s counselor.

We wish all of our athletes, coach, and teams good luck as they rapidly close out the season.

UPCOMING HS GAMES & TOURNAMENTS
