by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

On Thursday, November 23rd, the PTA will host our MS PTA meeting in MPB 3, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. At the meeting, our MS Counselors will present a session on understanding Relational Aggression and Bullying, based on the work of renowned psychologist, Michael Thompson in his book, “Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children.”

We hope you can join us for this session.

MS Student Leadership Seminar on December 2nd

We are excited to host our second Middle School Leadership Seminar on December 2nd.

Our goal for the December 2 Middle School Leadership Seminar is to introduce participants to the concept of Servant Leadership with an emphasis on building successful relationships. Students will focus on understanding other people’s perspectives, needs and intentions though fun, interactive activities. In addition, students will continue to work on the communication, collaboration and team building skills introduced in our previous leadership seminar.

Please encourage your child to come join the fun – there will be lots of new, hands-on activities and it’s a great opportunity to network with students your child might not normally spend time with.

You can sign your child up here. All participants will receive certificates of participation.

Registration for this activity will close on November 30.

FCD Presentation

The week of November 20, Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD) will be on campus meeting with high school students. FCD is a non-profit organization that provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education to schools world-wide. FCD prevention specialists will present the most up-to-date information available on the physiological and psychological effects of various drugs, and provide a forum for discussing social, cultural, and personal issues that relate to the choices students make.

In addition, the FCD prevention specialist will lead a parent meeting in MPB 1 on Wednesday, November 22 from 9-10:30am. The high school would also encourage Grade 8 parents attend if possible. We hope you can make it.

Applying to Boarding School for 2018-2019?

A gentle reminder that if you are planning to apply for admission to boarding school for the 2018-2019 school year, it is very important that parents meet with their child’s counselor in person. Please schedule an appointment to meet with your child’s counselor as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.

It is important that you start with the counselor, rather than directly approaching teachers.

Also, please note, in order to allow teachers time to provide a thorough, quality reference for your child, we ask that you allow a 4 week turn around time from the time the reference request is received until the reference is completed. Students who are applying to schools with January application deadlines should have submitted reference requests already. If you are starting this process, please submit reference requests by November 22nd, at the latest.

All reference requests need to go through your child’s counselor. This will enable us to ensure that references and other documentation is submitted to the receiving institution.

Thank you for working in partnership with your child’s counselor to ensure a smooth transition to boarding school.

If you are leaving ISB at the end of the semester

Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after Semester 1 need to notify the MS Counseling Office, K. Namwan (sariyam@isb.ac.th) as soon as possible and fill out the Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
