Justina@isb.ac.th

Thank you to the 50+ parents who attended the HS Principal Forum meeting on Thursday October 19th to hear responses to a wide range of questions posed by the HS Parent community. Of course not all High School parents could attend this informative session so we have included a link below to the presentation slides which include responses to the questions that were posed at that meeting. The key areas of interest addressed at the forum were:

  • HS Assessment and Grading System
  • IB classes and IB Curriculum
  • College Counselling
  • Development of the Native Language Program
  • Community Service and Activities
  • School trips and GCW

Link to summary of HS Principal Forum Presentation (October 19th)

A number of questions raised by parents have already been addressed in previous PTA meetings, workshops or in the HS Enews and you can find further details by clicking on the links below.

HS College Counseling Coffee presentation (October 16th)

ISB HS Counseling website

HS Assessment Workshop presentation (October 5th)

Powerschool 7-1 presentation (October 5th)

HS PTA meeting presentation on CAS (September 14th)

There were a few other questions that we were not able to answer on the 19th October as we ran out of time. You can find the responses to those questions by clicking here.

Once again, thank you for your questions and interest in various aspects of how the High School works at ISB. We look forward to keeping the lines of communication open with parents and students and parents throughout the course of the year, so please do not hesitate to contact any one of us if you have questions or thoughts to share with us.

GCW Payments & Permission Slips -Due 7 Nov
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

Payment and Permission slips were distributed before October Break via email and to students in their first GCW meeting. Please note that the payment date for GCW courses is coming on Monday 7 November.

How do I make a payment?
In the email parents received payment details were explained. All parents were issued a pre-printed Bank of Ayudhya payment slip sent as an attachment on that email. Payments can be made at any branch of Bank of Ayudhya using this pre-printed payment slip. Payments can also be made via Paypal or at the school cashier.

Please do not do any online banking transfers as these are incredibly as these are very difficult to trace.

On Tuesday 7 November all students will need to return:

  1. Their signed permission forms
  2. A copy of their passportfor all trips that travel overnight.
  3. There is no need to return payment slips, please keep these as confirmation of payment.
  4. If you have any questions regarding either the Parent Permission Form or the Payments for GCW, please contact Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th) or Khun Jurairat (jurairak@isb.ac.th)

 Many thanks,
Andy Vaughan

Grade 11 Extended Essay
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

Grade 11 full IB Diploma students will be presented with an Introduction to the Extended Essay after school on Tuesday November 7th at 2:35pm in the Chevron.  This has been changed from Monday November 6th, which is what is listed on the printed Calendar.  This session will introduce students to the Extended Essay, and is a mandatory component of the IB Diploma.  Students, after this presentation will go through the process of gathering information, hearing from teachers, and then deciding on a subject choice in which they will conduct a rigorous piece of research for the next 10 months.  It is an exciting time as they embark on what is probably their first academic research paper that mirrors University standard work.

College Counselors

College Parent Coffee – The next monthly parent coffee will focus on standardized testing and will be held Monday, November 13 from 8-9 in MPB 1. All high school parents are welcome to attend.

Juniors – Today, 11th graders had to turn in their personal mission statement. This is an important start to their college application process. The mission statement is a great way to introduce themselves to their college counselor and will serve as the catalyst for conducting university research. This mission statement will be the beginning of the resumes they will start creating. College Counselors will meet with 11th graders for the 3rd time this semester on November 27 to talk about HOW to research universities.

College Applications – This week was a very busy one in the counseling office with students finalizing their early applications. 50% of the Senior class have already submitted at least one application to Canada, Thailand, the UK and/or the US. Any student with an application deadline in December or January must notify the counseling office (with a blue transcript request form) by NOVEMBER 20!

UK and Australian Universities @ ISB – Just a special note to let parents know we are excited to host a number of UK and Australian universities the week of November 6. Please be sure to see the exact dates and times at the university visit link below.

University Visits– for a full list of who is coming, please subscribe to the Google Calendar at this link

School Counselor:

We hope your family enjoyed the October break!  Welcome back.

The week of November 20, Freedom from Chemical Dependency (FCD) will be on campus meeting with students. FCD is a non-profit organization that provides alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education to schools world-wide. FCD prevention specialists will present the most up-to-date information available on the physiological and psychological effects of various drugs, and provide a forum for discussing social, cultural, and personal issues that relate to the choices students make.

In addition, the FCD prevention specialist will lead a parent meeting in MPB 1 on Wednesday, November 22 from 9-10:30am.  We hope you can make it.
