‘Meet you at the forum’
Justin Alexander
Justina@isb.ac.th
We welcomed our close friends from our partner IASAS schools onto our campus today as we finally kicked off the IASAS soccer tournament. Our student athletes have been preparing and practicing for the past few months and we look forward to seeing them perform and compete over the next few days. You will see details later in the E-news about game times and championship games which we will hopefully be playing in on Saturday afternoon. The Volleyball and Cross country teams are currently in Singapore and we will be following their progress with close interest. I am very impressed with the Panther Pride displayed around the school over the past few weeks and I encourage you to support and follow our teams throughout this wonderful IASAS tournament weekend.
Next Thursday October 19th at 9.30am will see the first HS Principal forum for the year and I look forward to presenting and speaking with parents on a number of topics that were brought forward by the High School parent body. A number of these topics are ongoing (such as the transition to the 7-1 grading scale) whilst others are relatively new topics relating to the Extended Essay, time for HL IB classes, format of mock exams etc. As you might expect there were a number of questions relating to the College Application process that were brought forward by parents. You may know our College Counselors are kicking off monthly Coffees for parents. The first will be on Monday October 16th at 8am with a focus on the overall college counseling program. These monthly coffees will be a great opportunity for our parent community to bring questions about all things relating to the college application process.
I look forward to seeing many of you on Monday at the College Counseling coffee and then again on Thursday at the Principal Forum.
Regards
Justin Alexander

School Counselors
We wish all students and families a restful three-day break; our thoughts are with the Thai people as they honor their beloved King on the anniversary of his passing.
College Counselors
College Counseling Parent Coffee – We look forward to seeing ISB high school parents this coming Monday (Oct. 16) at 8am in the MPB when College Counselors will provide an overview the college counseling program at ISB.
Juniors, Mission Statements & Blind Taste Tests – College Counselors met with 11th graders this past Monday and took them through an activity called “Blind College Taste Test” where students had to identify what they thought was the best university without knowing the name. Students were exposed to many aspects of an institution. This leads well into the next Seminar in November where we walk students through how to thoroughly research universities. And finally, your students have a homework assignment! They’ve been tasked with creating their own personal mission statement through reflecting on some questions, learning what mission statements are meant to convey, and then reviewing some exemplars. So it’s an exciting time for Juniors. Please ask them about the Blind Taste Test and their mission statement homework. The mission statement will be the first piece of the resume they will continue to build upon this semester.
Juniors & PSAT – 11th graders sat the PSAT this past Wednesday. They should expect to receive their scores sometime in December, most likely via email.
Seniors & University Applications – Any Senior applying to university between now and January should have a final college list. Parents, please be cognizant that students should be fully researching colleges and universities. Adding universities at the last minute or adding universities solely based on rank is an unreliable and poor way to prepare thoughtful applications. We have many students applying with October 15 and November 1 deadlines. Students should have already shared drafts of essays, personal statements, and supplemental essays with the college counselor for thoughtful feedback. Additionally, students should have already requested that test scores be sent to universities for November 15 or earlier deadlines.
Thai University Fair – ISB will host the annual Thai University Fair on Wednesday, October 20 beginning at 10:20am. All high school students and parents are invited to attend!
University Visits– for a full list of who is coming, please subscribe to the Google Calendar at this link.
