‘Feedback’
Justin Alexander
Justina@isb.ac.th

Thank you for your attendance (77%) and involvement in the Parent (Student) Teacher conferences that were held today in our Rajendra gym. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to hear feedback from your son/daughter’s teachers about your children’s successes, strengths and areas for growth.

Conferences are another important part of the learning process for our students as they receive feedback on their attitudes, efforts, work and learning and reflect upon this feedback to develop plans for their studies in the months ahead. Your role as a supportive and understanding parent in this process is very important, so once again a big thank you for participating in the conferences today.

On a separate note, we are very excited to be hosting a number of events this weekend and into next week and we invite you to come along to support, watch and listen. ISB is hosting the Bangkok International Choir Festival (BICF) on Friday and Saturday with a final performance on Saturday at 2pm in the Chevron Theater. ISB also hosts the TaPs festival which runs from Friday through Sunday with a final group performance on Sunday at 10am in the CCT and then of course we host the IASAS soccer tournament for both boys and girls starting on Thursday October 12th  and running until Saturday October 14th . I hope to see you at one or more of these great events.

Regards
Justin Alexander
High School Principal

School Counselors
During the past two weeks there has been an increase in the amount of assessments and deadlines for many of our students. The students have been using management and organization skills to tackle this. We do know though that some students need support during these times. This may be a need for academic support. Ideas we would recommend: seeking assistance from the teacher, seeking assistance from a peer, using our learning hub with support staff, dropping by the counseling office to seek out a peer tutor from the club / program we have. Students can also be in need of emotional support at these difficult times. We hope a supportive role can come from home, the school, and a student’s peers. Please know the school counselors are here to support. If you have concerns please encourage your son / daughter to reach out to us or feel free to contact us directly.

Tuesday October 10 – World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day (10 October) is a day for global mental health awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.

According to the World Health Organization, worldwide 10-20% of children and adolescents experience mental disorders. Neuropsychiatric conditions are the leading cause of disability in young people in all regions. If untreated, these conditions severely influence children’s development, their educational attainments and their potential to live fulfilling and productive lives.

In the high school we educate the topic of Mental Health primarily in our Health class in Grade 10. We also have a session of focus in our Freshman Seminar. In conversations with students and families we hope to destigmatize this health issue. Just like another part of your body that is in pain or injured quite often seeking advice on how to treat the health concern can be the best way forward. The ISB Counselors are not therapists but between us we have supported thousands of students over the years with their mental health. We can also help with referrals / outside resources in the community for support.
