Many Languages, One Voice
Yesterday we had a PK-12 assembly to celebrate the multilingual nature of our school – it was entirely student led, featuring dance, music, film, drama, visual art and storytelling. We heard students speaking and singing in a variety of native languages, celebrating what brings us “together” as a whole school. Please ask your children about their learning from this experience!
Professional Learning Day Today September 22
Classes will resume on Monday Sept. 25th, 2017. It will be an ‘E’ day.
ES Parent/Teacher Conferences – October 5 and 6
We are looking forward to sharing your child’s learning progress in our upcoming Parent/Teacher conferences. For grades 2-5 only, students are invited to attend the conference with you. Our purposes for conferences are the following:
- Communicate learning growth
- Enhance home-school connection
- Provide ways to promote home learning
- Build understanding around what learning looks like at ISB
Keep in mind that this structure is not a student-led conference; rather a chance for teachers, parents, and students to informally discuss how learning has progressed in the first several weeks of school. Students in grades PK-1 will not be involved in the Parent/Teacher conference. All students are welcome to attend the Book Fair in the ES library HUB and the ESMPR where supervision will be provided.
Please be reminded that there is no school for students on these days.
Pick A Time, our conference scheduler, will open on Monday, September 25 at 8:00 AM and will close Monday, October 2 at 2:00 PM.
The information letter explaining how to use Pick A Time can accessed via PowerSchool beginning on Friday, September 22 at 3:00 PM. Once you have logged on to PowerSchool click on the “Parent Conference” button on the left to see the letter. If you have more than one child in the ES you will need to switch between students to access a letter specific to your child’s grade.
Should you wish to speak with any of our counselors — Kate Kersey (Pre-K, K and Gr. 1), Ellen Thomas (Gr. 2-3) or Doug Williamson (Gr. 4-5), please know they will be available in their offices or you can make an appointment in advance.
Attention: Grade 5 Parents!
Elementary School Intercultural Day planning is underway and many of the cultural communities have stepped up to represent on November 17. Only 1 spot remains in the whole of the ES, and that is in Grade 5.
We need 1 more room filled. If your community has not yet taken a room for the event, please speak to your friends and contact us about leading a room for Intercultural Day.
Perhaps, you have lived in other places outside of your passport country – please know that you are very welcome to lead a room that is a place other than your homeland! We welcome parents to lead a cultural room that may represent a place you’ve called “home” on a previous assignment or experienced in some other way.
Please contact us to discuss the options. We are here to help you, and make Intercultural Day a fantastic event for all! Email us today- escoord@isb.ac.th.
