Welcome and Welcome Back!

The 2017-18 school year is here! On behalf of our Middle School teachers, staff, counselors and administrators, I offer a sincere welcome to the new families joining ISB. You are joining a wonderful, caring community and a learning- and learner-focused school. We are glad you chose to enroll your child with us and we embrace the responsibility of ensuring they receive a high quality education.
To all of our returning families, welcome back. We hope you had a wonderful summer holiday (or winter if you were down under) and that you are your children are excited and ready to get back to school.
There is a group of you who fall a little bit into both categories – our families of incoming grade 6 students. It can feel like a big leap to leave elementary school and start middle school. Last year, we spent a lot of time with the grade 5 helping with this transition. They are ready! We will continue to support them through these first months and of course, throughout the year.
Our teachers are back and have been planning for the start of the new year. We have a new schedule this year, and MS students will have more time in language classes, P.E., music, and other electives along with long blocks in English, Science, Social Studies, and Math, as before.
Students will receive their schedules on the first day of school and they will quickly become accustomed to the new schedule. We will highlight new aspects of the schedule in future eNews posts.
On that note, please take the time to read the eNews each week. This is our main vehicle for communication with families and it’s important that you know what’s going on at school and what might be needed in the coming days. Please encourage other community members to do the same.
We looking forward to seeing our hallways and classrooms filled with students again. We love our summer holidays, of course, but we are lucky to have wonderful jobs in which we get to work with students and education each day. It’s exciting to be back and do the work we love.
See you soon!
First Day of School
By Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
We are excited to welcome all the students to the Middle School on Tuesday, August 15th.
The school day starts at 7:20 AM. When students arrive to school, they should come up to the middle school quad, located directly behind the MS Office. Students will find bulletin boards posting their advisory classroom assignments.
At 7:20, students will meet with their advisory class and the rest of the day will be explained. They will also get their ID cards and lockers through their advisory class.
We have a fun and important day of community building planned, helping students feel comfortable and connected to their peers and teachers.
We look forward to seeing everyone back at school!
MS Student Leadership Seminar
We are excited to invite MS students interested in growing as leaders to a MS Student Leadership Seminar on Saturday, September 2nd, 9:00 to 11:00 AM, at ISB.
The seminar will be run by our counselors and a guest facilitator.
Students who attend the training will learn about and practice effective leadership skills through fun, interactive activities with high school students who have been trained for this leadership role. Students who participate will receive a certificate documenting their participation in this great leadership development opportunity .
Please talk to your child about this great opportunity.
Home Laptop Agreements
By Tico Oms, Dean of Students
ISB has a 1:1 laptop program to support student learning. To support home laptop usage we ask that parents have conversations with students on boundaries and expectations around computer usage at home.
It is important for parents to set guidelines and expectations for computer use in the home and to continue to revisit those guidelines as their child matures and as technology changes. We remind you that you still maintain parental authority over how, when, and where your child uses technology in your home. Your support and guidance is critical as students learn to navigate their digital lives.
Attached is the form.
