Course Registration

by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

If your child is currently in grade 6 or 7, she or he should have submitted requests for next year’s classes this past week. We have asked students to both complete the online PowerSchool registration, as well as complete a paper form that will serve as a record of their preferences for electives.

We hope that you’ve had good conversations with your children about next year. We will be working to build the Master Schedule for 2017-18 in the coming weeks and do our best to meet the most student requests as possible.

If your child has not submitted their course requests, please make sure he or she meets with the current grade level counselor in the coming week.

Online Safety for our students

by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

This week, at our MS PTA meeting, we focused on Online safety for adolescents. We shared important age-related brain development information, typical online behaviors by MS students, and recommendations for parents on how to have open conversations with their children, set boundaries, and understand how their children use technology.

The slides from the presentation are included below.

A week of rich learning experiences and professional growth in the MS

by Cindy Plantecoste, MS Dean of Academics

This week, MS teachers and students have had the opportunity to engage in a wide array of learning experiences with Penny Kittle (professional development coordinator, literacy coach, teacher, university professor, author of numerous books on reading and writing), and Matt de la Peña (award- winning author of young adult novels and picture books).

Over the course of the week, many of our students participated in labsites with Penny, and class discussions with Matt, where they were immersed in words, poetry, and text.  Students and teachers have been writing alongside of text, listening to and creating poetry, conferencing about their reading, learning about the craft of writing, and getting inspired about what to read next!

In addition to the work happening in classrooms, our MS English and Social Studies teachers have had rich sessions of professional learning that will underpin future improvements to our programs in the MS.  Furthermore, many of our teachers are joining educators from around the world who are participating in the Adolescent Literacy Summit, taking place at ISB throughout the weekend.

We encourage you to speak with your children about their reading and writing experiences this week!

Change in Date for the 8th Grade End of Year Social

By Maurilio BARON-TOALDO, maurilib@isb.ac.th

Dear Parents of 8th Graders,

Please note in your calendars the following change – the 8th grade End of Year Social originally scheduled for Saturday, May 20th at 7:00 – 10:00 pm, has been changed to Saturday, May 13th at 7:00 – 10:00 pm. The reason for the change is the hotel bumped us out of our booking due to a large wedding needing the additional space.

More information is coming and we will keep you updated.
