Message from Principal
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

After much anticipation GCW is upon us with the first students about to depart – listening to the conversations in school this morning you can tell something different is about to happen! As you will be aware our HS students are heading in many directions, some local, some within Asia and some intercontinental. Wherever they are heading I know that GCW is a highlight for students offering new learnings, insights and friendships that stay with them a lifetime. GCW is also a massive logistical undertaking; for months now teachers and support staff have spent countless hours on making this experience the best it can possibly be. I would like to thank all who are involved and wish them all well – especially our overnighters.

GCW is here!

As our first students depart for Global Citizenship Week today, please know that our sponsors will do their best to look after them, ensure their safety, and provide a fun learning environment. Part of that learning relies on the students taking on some independence and responsibility away from home, while in safe settings.

For this reason, we ask that you let them go a little this week so they can fully immerse themselves in a new culture, habitat, and overall experience.  In cases of emergency, please contact me (at any hour) and I will reach the group.  They are off to wonderful experiences and will return with stories, memories, and a new outlook on friends, themselves, and the world.

For those students in local (non-overnight) courses, please remember to sign their provided Gate Pass (will be sent home with students on Monday) if you give permission for them to leave campus before 2:05pm – students will not be allowed to leave campus for lunch.  Please remember that late buses will not be running during GCW.

Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

On the mornings of Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th   February all Grade 10 students will be completing the International Schools Assessment (ISA) in Mathematical Literacy, Reading and Writing. Please note, this is a change from the original date of February 6th & 7th as advertised on the ISB Calendar. This assessment is conducted in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 at ISB and the results are used to provide patterns in learning and assist in charting future direction. Students are expected to bring a pencil, black pen, eraser, ruler, sharpener and calculator to the test.  EAL students may also bring a translating dictionary for the Mathematics.  Please ensure encourage your children to be at the MPB by 7:15am on Monday morning.

Grade 10 Course Selection Evening – Monday 6th March 6:30pm MPB
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

Please save the evening to come along with your grade 10 child to speak with grade 11 course teachers about the different options available in grade 11.

The transition from grade 10 to 11 is the time when students have the most choice available about what courses they can study.  It can prove to be hard to make these choices and we hope that having the opportunity to talk to teachers will help that decision to be an informed one.

Please come along!

Attention Parents of Seniors: Photos Needed
Laura Sadowski
isadowski65@yahoo.com

It’s time to start collecting those photos you want to see displayed on the bulletin boards near Rajendra Hall during the weeks leading up to graduation. Two plastic bins will be in the HS office to collect these hard copy photos. One bin will be for “Baby Photos” and should include a baby photo of each graduate. Please put the student’s name on the back of the photo. The other bin will be for “Senior Memories” and should include candid, action photos of the graduates in solo or group shots taken any time over their educational career. It would be great to have all the graduates featured on these boards, so please send in photos with as many graduates as possible. You will not get these photos back! Questions? Contact Laura Sadowski at lsadowski65@yahoo.com.

NBBL Scorekeeping/Timekeeping opportunity for students in Grades 7-12

Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

As we have in past years, NBBL (North Bangkok Basketball League) will hire Grade 7-12 students to be scorekeepers and timekeepers for NBBL games.

The games will take place Saturdays at the ISB gyms.  This is a great opportunity for Grade 7-12 students to earn their own money and learn the responsibility of a work situation.  The students will earn between THB 200 and 300 per game..  In order for the students to be eligible to work at these games, all students (including those who have been scorekeepers/timekeepers in the past) must register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScDhUmhKY-bfREmqffvNrWbdX7T0rUsG2W2JOSYSBO-OSeLzg/viewform?usp=send_form

There is a MANDATORY training session for any student who did NOT work as a scorekeeper/timekeeper last season.  This training will take place either on Sunday, February 26th at 5:00PM in the ES MPR room or on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00PM in MPB Room 3.  The sessions will last about an hour.  Students are only required to attend one of the sessions, but you MUST register in advance.  You can’t just show up without registering.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  As always, please consult our NBBL website at https://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for information.   This is where we will post calendar information, schedules, team listings, etc.

Thanks,
