GCW -7 Days to go!
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

Next Friday we will be farewelling the first of our 36 GCW trips departing ISB. Hours and hours of planning have gone into the week from faculty, administration, support staff and trip providers and we know that our students will come back with many great learning moments from these trips that will form life long memories.

By now all parents should have received emails from the lead sponsors on your child’s trip and all information you should need should be available to you through these communications and through the GCW website. To find out more information about your child’s course, once again, here is the link to the GCW Website Pages:  https://isbangkok.haikulearning.com/keithm1/gcwpages

Also, as another a reminder, if your child is taking medication with them on their trip, please ensure that they have filled out and completed a Medical Consent Form, found at this link

In the event that you need to contact your child during GCW if there is an emergency or family crisis, we do ask that you do not call your child direct, but instead work through the school. Please contact Andy Vaughan direct on 087 514 9550 (24 hours a day) and we will ensure that the right support is available for your child while on the trip if they need to receive information that could be sensitive.

If you have any further questions regarding your child’s trip, please contact their lead sponsor or Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th).

We wish you all a relaxing Activity Free Weekend and hope that you can take time out to connect with your family over this weekend.

Grade 10 ISA Testing
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

On the mornings of Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th   February all Grade 10 students will be completing the International Schools Assessment (ISA) in Mathematical Literacy, Reading and Writing. Please note, this is a change from the original date of February 6th & 7th as advertised on the ISB Calendar. This assessment is conducted in grades 3, 5, 7 and 10 at ISB and the results are used to provide patterns in learning and assist in charting future direction. Students are expected to bring a pencil, black pen, eraser, ruler, sharpener and calculator to the test.  EAL students may also bring a translating dictionary for the Mathematics.  Please ensure encourage your children to be at the MPB by 7:15am on Monday morning.

Grade 10 Course Selection Evening – Monday 6th March 6:30pm MPB
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th

Please save the evening to come along with your grade 10 child to speak with grade 11 course teachers about the different options available in grade 11.

The transition from grade 10 to 11 is the time when students have the most choice available about what courses they can study.  It can prove to be hard to make these choices and we hope that having the opportunity to talk to teachers will help that decision to be an informed one.

Please come along!

Grade 12
We hope your family enjoys the long weekend!

Grade 11
Has your Junior scheduled the Junior Conference? Khun Jan in the HS Counseling Office can schedule these with the appropriate counselor. Ideally both parents should attend during the student’s free period. We encourage families to try to get these appointments scheduled sooner rather than later. If you have any questions, please talk to your student and/or contact the ISB HS Counselor.

If you haven’t checked out this amazing resource for all things college related, we encourage you to do so! https://sites.google.com/a/isb.ac.th/isb-hs-university-advising/ Use the menu on the left to search the site.

Grade 10
Today the 10th graders met with the counselors to begin the process of choosing their courses for next year.  We talked about graduation requirements, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and using our past seminars (in which students explored their strengths and the subject areas that they like) in order to begin thinking about what courses suit them best.  Registration for next year’s courses is from March 15-21, so students have lots of time to discuss their options with parents, teachers, counselors, and friends!
Grade 9
This week students had the opportunity to get together with their GCW groups in final preparation for their trips.  GCW for many 9th graders will be a great opportunity to engage in a different type of classroom. This is an opportunity for them to make connections, and reflect upon what they are observing in what for many will be a very new and different environment. I have been encouraging students to try and get ahead of the game with their studies, working hard on any projects or preparation for items that may be coming up after GCW. This way this is all taken care of and they truly can take in the experience. Please encourage likewise at home.

NBBL Scorekeeping/Timekeeping opportunity for students in Grades 7-12

Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

As we have in past years, NBBL (North Bangkok Basketball League) will hire Grade 7-12 students to be scorekeepers and timekeepers for NBBL games.

The games will take place Saturdays at the ISB gyms.  This is a great opportunity for Grade 7-12 students to earn their own money and learn the responsibility of a work situation.  The students will earn between THB 200 and 300 per game..  In order for the students to be eligible to work at these games, all students (including those who have been scorekeepers/timekeepers in the past) must register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScDhUmhKY-bfREmqffvNrWbdX7T0rUsG2W2JOSYSBO-OSeLzg/viewform?usp=send_form

There is a MANDATORY training session for any student who did NOT work as a scorekeeper/timekeeper last season.  This training will take place either on Sunday, February 26th at 5:00PM in the ES MPR room or on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00PM in MPB Room 3.  The sessions will last about an hour.  Students are only required to attend one of the sessions, but you MUST register in advance.  You can’t just show up without registering.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  As always, please consult our NBBL website at https://www.isb.ac.th/basketball for information.   This is where we will post calendar information, schedules, team listings, etc.

Thanks,
