What You Should Know about Nurturing Your Child’s Inner Reader
For Parents of Students PK-Grade 8

Learning to read is BIG work! From decoding three-letter words to tracking how characters change across a book to comparing how theme is treated in different texts, our readers are doing more sophisticated reading work than we ever did. Please join us on Thursday, February 2nd from 7:45 – 9:15 in the ES MPR to talk about the research behind reading, how we go about teaching reading at ISB, and how you can support your child’s inner reader.

The 5th Grade Book Sale (Thursday/Friday April 27/28)

We’re back again! The 5th grade book sale is a yearly auction put on by the 5th graders with the help of the teachers, IAs, and parents.  We are collecting books now through April for the sale (April 27/28).

The Funds raised from this charity go to the Mercy Centre in Klong Toey.  It helps pay for the education for many underprivileged kids who cannot afford school supplies, tuition and uniforms.  Last year we raised more than 100,000 baht, so of course this year we would like to beat that amount!  Please start sending books and magazines to school with your child, or you may drop them off in the boxes outside of the ES Office.

Eligibility: Girls who were under 9 years of age as of Sept. 1, 2016.
Date: Tuesday, February 7
Venue: ES A/C Gym
Time: 3:30-5:00pm

SELECTIONS
Team selections will be based primarily on basketball skills and understanding, coachability and attitude, effort and athletic ability. Each student will be given a fair and equitable opportunity to showcase these attributes. The final roster size will not be larger than twelve, and may be less to ensure everyone on the team can grow, thrive, and enjoy the program.

The selection process is always difficult, and we will endeavor to assess each player’s ability to succeed within the program. Not everyone who tries out may make the team. The coach will provide feedback to any players/parents who are not selected and identify their skills and areas of need.

The results from the tryout on Tuesday, Feb. 7 will be emailed out to parents, along with invitations to join the first practice session on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Fees will be due once parents/players confirm.

GAMES
Games will be scheduled once the team is adequately prepared. The Cubs will have the opportunity to play with teams from Harrow and NIST/Top Flight, and possibly others, both home and away. Four games are already scheduled on Sunday afternoons, however we will try to schedule some additional games on Tuesdays during the regular practice time. More games will be added if/when appropriate.

SCHEDULED GAMES:
March 26 at HIS
April 2 vs. HIS (at ISB)
April 23 at NIST
May 7 vs. NIST (at ISB)

PRACTICES: Tuesdays, 3:30-5:00 ES A/C Gym. Students can arrive from 3:15pm and warm up with the coaches.
