Grade 9
Our Freshman are gradually getting back into the swing of school and establishing routines again. Getting off to a good start is very important to set a good tone for the semester. Starting next week I will start to meet with students to review first semester progress.

In regards to transferring schools, a lot of private schools in the U.S have deadlines during January and February.  February 1st is a popular deadline for some schools. If you are looking at a school with this deadline then your family should contact Kuhn Fon our registrar in the counseling office immediately for setting up transfer of documents. In addition, all teachers and counselors should be informed of any required recommendations immediately, thus providing adequate time for a quality response.

Teachers and counselors would request 3 weeks notice for a recommendation.

All schedule changes/adjustments have been completed for the second semester and hopefully your sons and daughters are all set for a productive half-year.  Ask your students how they are organizing their assignments, whether by writing them down or keeping track on a digital calendar: whatever works best for them is fine.  GCW is right around the corner; are your students excited about the trip?

The fourth sophomore seminar is Friday, February 10th.  We’ll take the data that students put together on their personal strengths and their personality traits, and talk about how it might help them to choose their classes for grades 11 and 12.  That should provide some good dinner table conversation at home!

Grade 11
It was great to see so many parents at Junior College Night this past Wednesday! If you still cannot access Naviance, please contact your child’s counselor. A copy of the night’s presentation can be accessed here.

On Thursday, counselors met with students in this year’s third Junior Seminar where students started preparing for the Junior Conference. Students should schedule the Junior Conference (parents, student, and counselor) in February through March. Students also received paper copies of their PSAT results.

Finally, if you haven’t turned in your Parent Perspectives, we’d appreciate your doing so as soon as possible. We look forward to working with you and your student in the coming months as preparation for life after high school picks up speed.

Grade 12
If a Senior applied to a US university, the counseling office will be sending mid year reports (first semester grades) by the end of the month. Students need to do nothing as we’ll automatically send these. Mark your calendars – Thursday, April 27 is a Parent Transition Meeting. This will be an opportunity to learn more about what to expect as your student prepares to transition to university life.
