Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

This is a short update for all parents regarding the upcoming GCW trips that are approaching soon over the week of 20-24 February. All courses met this week in their Panther Block with their course sponsor. Please take a minute to ask your child more about what was covered in this meeting.

Visa’s
Parents should have started or completed visa applications where required by the country your child is travelling. If there is any query on whether a visa is required for your specific country, please feel free to contact Khun Namo in the HS office or the teacher sponsor for your trip.

Medication
If your child is taking routine medication they will be required to turn in a ‘Field Trip Medication Consent Form’ which is found at this link. These forms need to be turned into the ISB Medical Clinic by February 3

Special Clothing and Equipment…
If your child is attending a trip that has a cooler environment or that requires special equipment, please start early in the acquisition of these items.

Any other questions?
If you have any further questions regarding your child’s course, please first contact the sponsor of your child’s course. There will also be a short feature on GCW at the upcoming PTA meeting, which is taking place on Thursday 26 January at 6.30pm.

Honors and High Honors Rolls
Susan Canobie
susanca@isb.ac.th
December saw the completion of semester 1 and a well earned break.  It also provided an indicator of current academic progress with the release of final grades and reports.  These accomplishments are acknowledged alongside the many student achievements in their relationships, artistic performances, creativity, service, and athletic endeavors.  Of course, one of the ways our students demonstrate their learning over a semester is through academic results in each course.  The cumulative average of these final grades is reported through the GPA which determines if a student is eligible for the first semester High Honor or Honor Rolls.

All our students, not just those recognised below, have make significant efforts every day to improve themselves and grow as young people.  We greatly value all contributions to the ISB community.

Grade 9
Our Freshman are gradually getting back into the swing of school and establishing routines again. Getting off to a good start is very important to set a good tone for the semester. Starting next week I will start to meet with students to review first semester progress.

In regards to transferring schools, a lot of private schools in the U.S have deadlines during January and February.  February 1st is a popular deadline for some schools. If you are looking at a school with this deadline then your family should contact Kuhn Fon our registrar in the counseling office immediately for setting up transfer of documents. In addition, all teachers and counselors should be informed of any required recommendations immediately, thus providing adequate time for a quality response.

Teachers and counselors would request 3 weeks notice for a recommendation.

Grade 10
All schedule changes/adjustments have been completed for the second semester and hopefully your sons and daughters are all set for a productive half-year.  Ask your students how they are organizing their assignments, whether by writing them down or keeping track on a digital calendar: whatever works best for them is fine.  GCW is right around the corner; are your students excited about the trip?

The fourth sophomore seminar is Friday, February 10th.  We’ll take the data that students put together on their personal strengths and their personality traits, and talk about how it might help them to choose their classes for grades 11 and 12.  That should provide some good dinner table conversation at home!

Grade 11
It was great to see so many parents at Junior College Night this past Wednesday! If you still cannot access Naviance, please contact your child’s counselor. A copy of the night’s presentation can be accessed here.

On Thursday, counselors met with students in this year’s third Junior Seminar where students started preparing for the Junior Conference. Students should schedule the Junior Conference (parents, student, and counselor) in February through March. Students also received paper copies of their PSAT results.

Finally, if you haven’t turned in your Parent Perspectives, we’d appreciate your doing so as soon as possible. We look forward to working with you and your student in the coming months as preparation for life after high school picks up speed.

Grade 12
If a Senior applied to a US university, the counseling office will be sending mid year reports (first semester grades) by the end of the month. Students need to do nothing as we’ll automatically send these. Mark your calendars – Thursday, April 27 is a Parent Transition Meeting. This will be an opportunity to learn more about what to expect as your student prepares to transition to university life.
