First… Happy Holidays to all!!!  Another semester for your high school student is in the past.  Students should rest, relax, read a book for pleasure and enjoy some family time!!!

Alumni Fair – On January 10, ISB Counselors will host an Alumni Fair in room 203 at 10:40am. Come talk to former ISB students who are now at university. You can learn more about their specific university, their transition, experience, advice, etc. All high school students and parents are invited. Grade 11

Our 11th graders have had a very full semester. Many of them are learning how to be more independent and better manage their time and responsibilities. This holiday will serve as a well earned break and rest. Upon return to school in January, we’ll start officially kicking off the college search and application process so there are a few things parents need to make note of now:

Mark your calendars! Junior College Night is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18 at 6:30pm in the MPB. Both 11th grade students and parents are encouraged to attend when we officially kick off the college search and application process.

In preparation for the college search process, both parents and students have an assignment to work on. The student and parent assignments are due by Monday, January 16 Student Homework – Students need to research 2 universities and write a self recommendation. Guidelines were handed out and reviewed in Junior Seminar in November and can also be accessed on Haiku. Parent Homework – You also have an assignment called “Parent Perspectives.” This is your chance to share very helpful information about your student with the counselor as begin to move forward with the college process. You can complete this on the paper given to your students, or on a Word document (students can download from Haiku), or through your own parent Naviance account.

October PSAT results were released this past week on December 12 to students via the email they reported on their PSAT registration form. When students access these results online, they also have access to Khan Academy, a free online tutorial that will use PSAT results to help identify areas for additional support. We strongly recommend that any student who plans to sit the SAT or ACT, take time to thoroughly review their PSAT reports. If students need assistance with this, their counselors are happy to assist. The next SAT is offered in January and the registration deadline is December 21. The ACT is offered later in the semester in April. To understand more about those results, the CollegeBoard has provided the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzCSIilL3WQ  All 11th graders were sent information re: accessing their PSAT results and SAT registration earlier this past week.

Grade 12

In addition to some rest and relaxation, seniors should use some time over the break to finish up some College Applications and be sure to check their emails and university portals for application updates from universities.  They should also inform their counselor of university decisions so Naviance can be updated.
