Parent Coffee Video – Standards Based Reporting

by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th

This week we hosted a parent coffee focused on the topic of Standards Based Reporting. Thank you to the parents who attended. We continue to benefit from the feedback we receive and the opportunity to share the learning benefits of this reporting system. Not everyone can attend these sessions, so we do our best to share these with you through the eNews.

Please watch the video (about 1 hour) here.

(Apologies for our casual dress … it was Spirit Week here in the Middle School!)

The slides did not come out clearly on the video, so those are embedded below so that you can see them clearly.

Feedback on Progress

by Dennis Harter

Last week, teacher comments were published in PowerSchool for your child. The purpose of these comments was to provide learning feedback and specific areas of strength and improvement for the student.

The semester continues until the December break and the feedback now is not the “final” feedback or grade for the semester. We time the feedback to allow students to use the learning feedback to continue to make progress in their learning.

Students will continue to have assessments and other opportunities to demonstrate their learning in the next weeks. Semester report cards are finalized and sent out at the end of the semester.

Celebration of Talent and Hard Work

We hope you were able to join us for either or both of two terrific productions this week.

On Tuesday, middle school students amazed us with their on-stage improvisation at “On The Spot,” the MS Theatre Sports event, hosted by our own Mr. Sharp. Students acted out improve games, thinking on their feet to share a story and make us laugh. We are so proud of the courage, respect, and commitment these students demonstrated on stage.

On Wednesday, our middle school orchestra students joined elementary and high school students for our annual Strings Bash, conducted by Mr. Weinhold. This performance included performances from all levels, beginner to advanced, culminating in a whole-school combined playing of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” (even the audience participated with the back beat). Mr. Weinhold conducted one combined piece from the upper deck, using glowing batons to guide the players.

In the coming week, we again showcase the talent and hard work of middle school musicians. On Tuesday, November 29th, we host the MS Band Concert in the Chevron Theater. On Thursday, our vocal students combine with the high school of for the MS/HS Choir Concert in the MPB. Both events start at 6:30 pm.

We hope you can join us to celebrate the talent surfaced through the hard work and dedication of our music students. Bravo!
