Thank You for an Amazing Intercultural Day!

intercultural-picture-6intercultural-picture-3

Today’s Intercultural Day was evidence of Maya Angelou’s words:

In diversity there is beauty and there is strength

Heartfelt thanks to the entire ES community for creating the beauty we saw all around us.  We know how much work it takes to produce this amazing day!  The event was full of beauty, learning, laughter and lots of fun – for students, teachers and parents alike!

ES Musical

Audition
Nearly 100 students in Grade 4 and 5 have signed up to hop along an adventure with Frog and Toad and audition for the ES Musical next week. Auditions are Monday, November 21st and Tuesday, November 22nd in Mr. Ender’s music room (4-114). For a closer look at the audition schedule, material and production information check out the ES Musical page of the ES Music Blog here. The cast list will be posted on the morning of November 24 outside of the music rooms.

Parent Volunteers Needed
Is your child signing up for the ES Musical? If so, you may have noticed that parents are requested to volunteer to help with this wonderful production. Please go here to sign up for one (or more) of the scenery/prop workshops, led by the talented Esther Schouten. Thank you for your support!

Parent Liaison Needed
Is your 4th or 5th grader planning on being part of the ES Musical this year? Are you looking for a way to help out? The “A Year With Frog and Toad, KIDS” team is looking for an organized parent to serve as a liaison between the production team and the parent community. This person will be responsible for organizing volunteers to help with various parts of the production, including costuming, props, scenery, ticket sales, snacks, and more. If you are interested in being a part of this fun and rewarding experience, please contact Mrs. Wong atangelaw@isb.ac.th.

Visiting Authors

Brother and sister author team Jennifer and Matthew Holm are coming on December 7, 8 and 9!  Please mark your calendars for a parent training on December 8 at 7:30-9:00 entitled Why Graphic Novels are GOOD for your Child. Special thanks to the ISB PTA for helping to bring this duo to Bangkok.

Full events flyer can be found here!

Book Clubs:  Read great literature together! It is not too late to join a Matt and Jennifer Holm parent/child book club!  Stop by the HUB for full details and to purchase (optional) books.

Leaving Bangkok? An invitation from the ISB Counselors

The ISB Counseling Department invites parents who are leaving to attend a Parent Transition Meeting on Wednesday, November 30 from 8:00-9:00 am in the Elementary School MPR. In order to support both you and your child, we’ll talk about the various aspects of transition, things to consider, how to leave Bangkok well and arrive well at your new destination. We look forward to supporting you in this process.  If you plan to attend, please email Doug Williamson atdouglasw@isb.ac.th

Love and Logic Parenting Book Discussion Group

Facilitated by ES Counselors, Ellen Thomas and Kate Kersey, Wednesday Mornings from Dec. 14th – Feb. 15th.

If you want to raise kids who are self-confident, motivated, and ready for the real world, take advantage of the Love & Logic win-win approach to parenting.  Your kids will win because they’ll learn responsibility and the logic of life by solving their own problems.  You’ll win because you’ll establish healthy control—without resorting to anger, threats, nagging, or exhausting power struggles! We will meet once a week for 7 weeks, starting Dec 14, and the discussion group will end on Feb 15. The group is limited to 35 parents on a first-come first-serve basis and registration closes on Nov 28. The discussions will be held from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. in the ES MPR. Click this link to register.  You can also purchase the book through ISB for 900 Thai Baht, or you can purchase the book on your own.

ES Explore (ES After School Activities)

Please note that Monday and Wednesday ES Explore classes will have their last session next week with exception of Wednesday Coding class that will have makeup class on November 30th.  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday classes are still in session and will have their last session at the end of November.

I am in the office daily from 2:00pm – 4:00pm if you have any questions or concerns.

ISB Strings Bash

strings-bash-nov-23The annual ISB Strings Bash is almost here! This year’s event scheduled for Wednesday, November 23 at 6:30pm at the Chevron Theater will feature 150 ISB ES, MS, and HS strings musicians, grades 3-12 showcasing not only some beautiful music but also giving a window into the learning process that happens everyday in the strings classroom.

(Updated) After School Supervision

Please ensure you know where your child is each afternoon and that maids and nannies understand the ISB policy around supervision after school.  ES students MAY NOT be on campus after school unless supervised by an adult in charge, appointed by the family. Thank you for your cooperation.

We have noticed children being unsafe on the Big Toy after school.  Please make sure students are using the Big Toy equipment as intended and not climbing outside of the intended play areas (i.e. the blue tube connecting the two pieces of equipment).

(Repeat) ES Involvement in Spirit Week – November 21-25th

In preparation for Spirit Night on November 25th, there will be a Panther Spirit Week from November 21-25th.  ES will be involved in two ways: students may wear Sports Team Jerseys on Tuesday, November 22nd and Black and Gold on Friday, November 25th.  Go Panthers!

(Repeat) Leaving ISB at the End of the First Semester?

Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after Semester 1 need to notify the ES Office, K. Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) as soon as possible and fill out the Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
