ES Parent Education Workshop – November 3, 2016 at 7:45-9:15 am
Building Number Sense in the Elementary Grades
How does Number Sense develop in children? At this month’s ES Parent Workshop, Learning Coach, Kim Bentley, will lead participants through an engaging, hands-on experience where we will explore the concept of “Number” through the eyes of PK – 5th grade students. Participants will leave with increased understanding of how Number Sense progresses throughout the elementary years, as well as ways they can support their children’s learning at home.
Book Club Signup
It’s time to sign up for the visiting author parent-child book clubs! ISB is excited to welcome the brother/sister duo, Jennifer and Matt Holm, to inspire our student readers and writers on December 7, 8 and 9. In honor of their visit, the ES HUB will host a series of parent/child book clubs to enjoy reading their books together. We welcome you to join a club and explore the amazing world of Jenni and Matt Holm! There are a few different options, depending on your child’s age and interest. Sign up for a club here before November 4th to be assured of your copy of a book!
Information Meeting for ES Musical: A Year With Frog and Toad, KIDS
Grades 4 and 5 are you ready to hop into the ES Musical this year? There will be a mandatory information meeting for the ES Musical at 2:20 on Tuesday, November 15th in Mrs. Wong’s music room (4-115). Parents of students in Grades 3-5
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) scores from recent assessments in reading and math are now available on PowerSchool. This letter provides parents with information about MAP. Please remember that this assessment is only one piece of many that we use to show a full picture of student learning.
ES Explore (ES After School Activities)
We are more than halfway through our ES Explore program! Most of the classes have already hosted their 5th session. Please note that next week there will be no ES Explore in session during October break. All ES Explore classes will resume on Monday, October 31st. TOM will have the first session on November 2nd in room 204A.
I am in the CAO office daily from 2:00pm – 4pm if you have any questions or concerns.

Clarification of New Campus Access Guidelines: starting Saturday October 22nd
By: Mark Hevland, Head of Risk Management
markh@isb.ac.th
Following yesterday’s post on this topic, there was some confusion for which we apologize. Please see below for greater clarification.
In an effort to maintain the unique open campus feel of ISB, along with improving the overall safeguarding of students, employees, parents and property, we are implementing the following guidelines regarding access to the campus:
Campus Use and Access:
- The campus will be open to the community from 6.40am to 8.00pm each day.
- Students and community members may enter the school via the front main gate and via the back Sarawanville pedestrian gate.
- Visitors may only use the front main gate – not the Sarawanville pedestrian gate.
- During the weekends, once inside the access gates, there will be one entrance to the school to the right of the zigzag path next to the administration office. All other internal access points will be closed for increased security and efficient use of the security team.
- Adults must present ID to enter campus at all times.
- Access times will be adjusted for events that run before and after normal opening hours. For example, events that run past 8:00pm, the campus closing time will be adjusted to 30 minutes after the scheduled end of the event.
- For students and adults that need to cross the campus to get to and from Nichada and Sarawanville, they will continue to be allowed access, with ISB ID, up to 9:30pm (this is current practice).
- All buildings on campus will be secured at 6:00pm (or immediately after the event concludes) and access will only be granted to those personnel assigned to the space. Buildings will be opened at 5:00am on schools days for ISB staff access. No student or parent will be allowed to access classrooms, offices, or other teaching spaces without the assigned staff member present.
Supervision:
- Any Elementary and Middle school student on campus outside of regular school hours, who is not participating in a school supported event (taking part or supporting), must be supervised by an adult. For Middle School students this time begins at 3:50pm. High School students are provided more flexibility and are allowed on campus without an adult. Please refer to the divisionhandbooks more specifics guidelines.
- Elementary students are supervised by ISB staff from 7:00am – 2:20pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 7:00am – 2:05pm on Tuesdays.
Should you have any concerns about campus access, please contact me at markh@isb.ac.th.
Intercultural Day – Friday November 18th
Our ES International Day has been renamed to Intercultural Day. This terminology has been discussed in many schools, including ISB, for the last couple of years. We recognize that nations have multiple cultures, creating diversity and similarities within and across physical borders. Our mission is to be caring, global citizens, and celebrating the many cultures around our globe supports this.
Intercultural Day is a “hands-on” learning day to celebrate ISB’s rich intercultural diversity. Many of our ES classrooms are “transformed” by parents into themed rooms celebrating different cultures; food, dress, language, music, and geography throughout the day.
A few details for parents:
- On Intercultural Day, students are welcome to dress representing their home cultures
- Students are invited to wear t-shirts representing places they have lived or traveled instead of their uniform in the week leading up to Intercultural Day.
- Intercultural Day begins with an Assembly. Parents are welcome to join the Assembly, as we are gathering in Rajendra Hall and have space. Parents will need to be seated by 7:45AM SHARP – so that the Assembly can begin on time.
Intercultural Day Host Country Volunteers Needed!
We still need a few more volunteers to host country rooms! It only takes a few hours of your time on this very special day. Please contact Abbie Boudreaux and Katie Edsall at escoord@isb.ac.th to volunteer! Thank you!
(Repeat) Leaving ISB at the End of the First Semester?
Parents of students who are not returning to ISB after Semester 1 need to notify the ES Office, K. Tina (tinaratr@isb.ac.th) as soon as possible and fill out the Notice of Withdrawal from ISB Form to enable us to process school records for their next school. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
(Repeat) After School Supervision
Please ensure you know where your child is each afternoon and that maids and nannies understand the ISB policy around supervision after school. ES students MAY NOT be on campus after school unless supervised by an adult in charge, appointed by the family. Thank you for your cooperation.
