Message from the Principal
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

On behalf of the HS I would like to wish all our families a relaxing and peaceful October Break. For our students it provides a well deserved rest from some of their daily routines and an opportunity to recharge their batteries. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday October 31st.

Sincerely
Philip Bradley

GCW Permission and Payment Slips
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

Payment and Permission slips were distributed on Wednesday to students in Panther Block instead of last Friday; this date was delayed due to the cancellation of school last Friday after passing of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej. With this delay of distribution, we have extended the payment period for GCW courses by one week to Monday 7 November.

How do I make a payment?
All students are issued a pre-printed Bank of Ayudhya payment slip. Payments should be made at any branch of Bank of Ayudhya using this pre-printed payment slip. If your child has not brought this slip home to you, please print out the form from this link: GCW Payment Advice and fill in the blanks by hand as follows:

  1. Student Name: The full name of your child attending
  2. Student ID: Your child’s ISB Student ID number, enter in “Ref. 1”
  3. Course Number: Please see the Course No. at this link, enter in “Ref. 2”
  4. Total Amount Due: Please see the Course Amount at this link

For parents wanting to pay using online banking transfers, please ensure you include your child’s Name on the payment and add your child’s ID number and Course Number as per the instructions above. Please also ensure that you take a screenshot of your transfer and email this to Khun Namo (krishpot@isb.ac.th) to ensure confirmation of this transfer.

Please note that we do not accept Credit Card payments.

Permission Forms
On Monday 31 October all students will have their first GCW meeting. In this meeting they will need to return:

  1. Their signed permission forms (please see this link for the ‘Parent Permission Form‘ if your child has not taken theirs home)
  2. Two Copies of their passport for all trips that travel overnight.
  3. There is no need to return the payment slips in the first meeting, please keep these as confirmation of payment.
  4. If you have any questions regarding either the Parent Permission Form or the Payments for GCW, please contact Andy Vaughan (andyv@isb.ac.th) or Khun Namo (krishpot@isb.ac.th)

Counseling News
Jennifer Melton
jenniferm@isb.ac.th

For all HS Parents – Two weeks ago we shared a great article entitled Are you a gardener or carpenter for your child? In continuing with that theme, take a moment to review this TED Talk from former Stanford Dean of Admission, Julie Lythcott-Haims. It also ties in nicely with the message from the recent consultant visit from Mr. Dan Grayson.

Grade 12  With the October 15 UCAS application deadline behind us, students have now turned their attention to US Early Decision/Action application deadlines of November 1 and 15 and have begun submitting applications with their counselor.  Students applying by November 1 or 15 are reminded to schedule an appointment as they are required to submit their first few applications with their counselor and then can complete and submit their remaining applications (10 total submitted applications) independently.

Next week will be a great time for Seniors to rest a bit after what has been a very busy first semester. They certainly deserve a break.  We hope you enjoy your time together.  As always, thank you for your continued support of your student/s.

Grade 11 – If there is a message we hope parents took away from our recent visit from Dan Grayson, it’s that while high school academic performance may be important, there are other factors of greater significance to student development. We hope the time off next week will be an ideal time for students to unplug, read for pleasure, get some rest, and enjoy time with family and friends. It’s such an important opportunity for students that shouldn’t be wasted.

Grade 10 – Now that we are heading into the well-deserved break, make sure that your sons and daughters get some quality downtime and recharge their batteries.  9-10 hours of sleep a night is something many of our students dream of; hopefully they ll get it regularly during the break.  Research is showing that extended time in front of a computer screen can increase stress levels, even if the activity is exciting/enjoyable for a person.  Get your son or daughter outside a bit and enjoy the (relatively) cool weather!  What book is your son/daughter reading? How about you?  There’s a conversation starter!  Enjoy your October break.

Grade 9 –  It was great to see so many 9th grade parents out at the teacher conferences. Hopefully you received some good feedback from our teachers. We also had a nice turnout at our Navigating High School Presentation for parents. I will be forwarding some resources from this presentation in the next couple of weeks.

Mr. Davy has continued to meet with 9th graders for individual conferences. These conferences check in on how high school has been for the first 9 weeks, and where students are at this moment in time both socially & academically.

In advisory this week, 9th graders had 2 sessions, one addressed honoring the passing of his majesty in a respectful manner. The other session we focused on GCW. Two forms where handed out that should come home to you. These should be returned by October 31st. The first of three GCW meetings for each individual trip will be just after the break. Freshman Seminar will also resume following. Please have a wonderful break!

Pre-IASAS baseball and softball
Kevin Sypolt
ksypolt@gmail.com

As most of the high school students will be aware, this year IASAS is switching to from slow pitch softball to baseball for boys and from slow pitch softball to fast pitch softball for girls.

The IASAS and Junior Varsity tryouts won’t occur until February but here is your chance to get a jump on these 3rd season sports.

Bangkok Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) is a great pre-season for the IASAS season.  There is a senior baseball league for boys and a fast pitch softball league for girls.  There is one practice during the week and one game each weekend for both sports.   And BBSA employs professional coaches who will help the players, particularly with pitching for both the boys and the girls.

BBSA is open to players of all abilities.   We want everyone to develop their baseball/softball skills and have a great time.  There are no tryouts.  Everyone is placed on a team based on their abilities.

If you are interested, please go to our website at https://www.isb.ac.th/community-baseball or contact Kevin Sypolt at ksypolt@gmail.com or Maria Van Zant at mvanzant@hotmail.com
