Parent Conferences
‘Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers,
motivated students and enthusiastic parents with high expectations.’
We hope you enjoyed meeting with teachers during the last few days. Both teachers and parents have expressed how conversations have helped nurture learning partnerships and set goals for the year ahead. We look forward to continuing this year’s learning journey with your child in the weeks and months ahead and thank you for your involvement in the process – we know from research that it makes a significant difference!

ES PTA Meeting – Thursday October 13th at 9:00 am
International Day will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016. We have had lots of amazing parent volunteers sign up to host a country room, but we still need more! Please if you are volunteering or want to volunteer to help that day, come to our next ES PTA Meeting on October 13th at 9 am in the ESMPR. The main purpose of this meeting is to discuss International Day! Remember if you are not volunteering to help that day, you are not allowed to stay in the Elementary School after the assembly. Don’t miss your opportunity to be a part of this wonderful day! Please come to the meeting on October 13th, but if you cannot attend, send us an email atescoord@isb.ac.th
We look forward to seeing you! Abbie Boudreaux and Katie Edsall, PTA ES Representatives
International Day – Friday, November 18
International Day is a ‘hands-on’ learning day to celebrate ISB’s rich intercultural diversity. Many of our ES classrooms are ‘transformed’ by parents into country themed rooms so that our students can celebrate different cultures, food, dress, language, music, and geography throughout the day.
A few details for parents:
- Students are welcome to dress representing their home country to school on International Day!
- Students are invited to wear country t-shirts instead of their uniform or P.E. uniform in the week leading up to International Day.
- International Day begins with an Assembly. Parents are welcome to join the Assembly, as we are gathering in Rajendra Hall. Parents will need to be seated by 7:45AM SHARP – so that the Assembly can begin on time.
ES ‘Out of Uniform’ Day – October 13 and 14
These two days are ‘Out of Uniform’ days in the Elementary School. On PE days, students need to wear their PE uniforms. On their non PE day, students may choose to not wear their ISB uniform.
Appropriate dress guidelines for our ‘Out of Uniform’ days are:
- Pants/slacks/shorts—good condition
- Shirts/blouses—sleeves & midriff required, appropriate logos only
- Skirts/dresses/jumpers—sleeves required, modest length
- Shoes—sneakers, street shoes or leather sandals with back strap
- Hats must be worn all the time when playing outside during recess or during PE classes.
Head Lice
Over the last few weeks we have had several students with head lice in the elementary school. Head lice are a small parasitic insects that live on the human head. They do not spread any disease but they can spread between people. Lice are NOT associated with having “dirty” hair.
To help limit spread of lice in the elementary school we are asking all parents to check their children for head lice weekly for the next 4 weeks and to treat if any lice are found (and please notify the school if you find any lice by email (nurse@isb.ac.th)). We are asking you to check weekly due to the fact that your child may only have a few lice initially and these may be missed on the original check.
How to check for Head Lice:
This will take 3-5 minutes to check your child’s head, depending on hair length and thickness.
- Untangle the dry hair using an ordinary brush and comb.
- Once the comb moves freely through the hair without dragging, switch to a detection comb (a fine tooth comb available at pharmacies).
- Starting from the base or the side of the scalp, comb the hair from the scalp down to the end of the hair. Comb each section of hair 3-4 times before moving to an adjacent section.
- Look for lice as the comb is drawn through the hair. The lice are brown and mobile. Adult lice are about the size of a sesame seed.
- If a possible louse is seen, trap it against the face of the comb using your thumb. This avoids the risk of the louse being repelled by static electricity as the comb is pulled out of the hair.
- Continue combing the hair section by section until the whole head of hair is combed through.
- At the same time look for nits (eggs) which are small and white-yellow and they are attached to the hair close to the scalp (viable nits are within 1 cm of scalp). They do not move and are difficult to remove.
For further information please look at this link (Checking for Head Lice). If Head Lice are detected please contact the Health Clinic (nurse@isb.ac.th) and information about head lice and treatment will be provided.
How to prevent head lice:
- Avoid head to head contact
- Do not share combs, brushes, hair accessories, towels and hats
- Long hair should be tied up or braided
- Spraying hair with diluted tea tree oil or put some tea tree oil in the conditioner
Thank you for your co-operation.
