Child Safeguarding
By: Dr. Andrew Davies, Head of School
andrewd@isb.ac.th
Dear Parents,
Student Safeguarding is a significant priority at ISB and we have been working diligently over the past few years to ensure that the school is following best practices in this regard. By enrolling your child at ISB, you agree to work in partnership with the school and abide by the policies adopted by the ISB Board of Trustees. All of us at ISB want you to know that we genuinely value our partnership with you in providing for the safety and care of your children. It is for this reason that ISB has developed and adopted a Student Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct for ISB Employees and Associates. We have conducted recent training on the Student Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct in English and Thai for close to 800 ISB employees and associates including teachers, IAs, secretaries, Building and Grounds staff, security guards, substitute teachers, coaches, cafeteria staff, bus drivers and bus monitors.
Our ISB Student Safeguarding Policy outlines the measures we take to create a safe and nurturing environment for all of the children we come into contact with in our work, as well as the procedures we use to ensure that we fulfill our professional and ethical obligation to identify children who are in need of help and protection and to take appropriate action to ensure their wellbeing. We have translated this policy into Thai, Japanese and Korean, the major language groups of our community, in addition to English.
The ISB Code of Conduct applied to all ISB employees and associates. It defines the standards by which all ISB students should be treated with respect and dignity at all times.
You can find the ISB Student Safeguarding Policy (English, Thai, Japanese and Korean) as well as the Code of Conduct on the Parent Portal and attached to this message.
Any member of our community who is concerned that a child or young person may be experiencing abuse or neglect should immediately notify a counselor, school psychologist or principal. If you are concerned that an ISB employee or associate has violated our Code of Conduct, you should immediately notify the principal or Head of School.
We will work together with you to ensure that our children are safe and are knowledgeable about their rights and responsibilities to themselves and to each other so that they can grow and learn free of fear in a safe and supportive environment.
I thank you for your support of our efforts and invite you to contact your school counselor or principal regarding any specific questions you may have in this regard.

Please join the Futures Forum
By: Graeme Scott, Deputy Head of School for Learning
graemes@isb.ac.th
Dear ISB Community Members,
As I’m sure you’re aware, we are living in rapidly changing times. The changes we are witnessing are impacting global needs, the workplace and also education. ISB has been working for the last four years on ways to ‘future-proof’ our organization and looking into how we best prepare our students for this challenging and dynamic environment.
Please join us on Wednesday, September 14th from 1:00 – 2:15 in MPB 1 for a Futures Forum. You will hear how ISB is approaching this challenge, find out how your own child might be impacted and also have a chance to join the discussion yourself. Click here to hear some thoughts to begin with.
The discussion will be led by Graeme Scott, our Deputy Head of School for Learning, and Dr. Chris Jansen. Chris is Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He is also an expert in change leadership. He currently spends much of his time working with the community of Christchurch, New Zealand, helping to rebuild schools in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 2011. Chris has been working alongside us, supporting our work for the past two years. We would love to share some of our findings and hear your thoughts too.
Please join us for a lively discussion and snacks.

Health Clinic: Medications at ISB
By: Sally Plomley, School Health Coordinator
sallyp@isb.ac.th
Many students will require medications to be given at some time during the school day. At the Health Clinic we are here to help with this.
If your child needs medication during the school day please bring it to the Health Clinic in a ziplock bag clearly labelled with your child’s name and grade/teacher. All medications should be in the original packaging with medication name and expiry date on it. Unpackaged medications will not be accepted as we need to be certain of the medication we are administering.
We also need written consent from the parents to administer medications. The following forms are available on the ISB website under “Health Services”.
- Nurse Medication Consent Form. This form should be filled out on an annual basis (with the annual medical forms) giving the nurse consent to give you child some over the counter medications. There is an option where the nurse can either give the medication, not give the medication or call the parent every time they think the student may benefit from the medication.
- Parental Consent of Administration of Short Term Medications. This form should be filled in if your child is needing medications for a short period of time (such as antibiotics or antihistamines). This form will ensure the nurse knows what the medication is, what it is for and when it must be administered.
- Prescription Medication Consent Form. This form is for children who are on long term medications which are prescribed by a doctor. The doctor and the parents must sign this form. This form needs to be filled out again every time the medication or the dose is changed.
- Field trip medication consent forms (Elementary/Middle School and High School). These forms are to be used when your child will be requiring medications whilst on an off campus trip. A new form must be filled out for each off campus trip. There are separate forms for Elementary/Middle School and High School.
- Anaphylaxis Treatment Plan, Diabetes Management Plan and Asthma Care Plan. These forms are to be filled out by the parents and the doctors of students with anaphylaxis, diabetes and asthma. They outline the treatment the student requires for these disorders. These forms should be filled out on an annual basis as treatments and recommendations may change.
Nurses will NOT accept medications that are dropped into the clinic if they are not clearly marked, in the original packaging (and not expired) and with the appropriate consent forms filled out.
ISB is committed to your child’s overall development, both educationally and health related. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your healthcare provider or the ISB Health Clinic (nurse@isb.ac.th).
Cafeteria: Do you know about our Homemade Goodness?
By: Michelle Mueller Ihrig, Epicure Catering Manager
cafeteria@isb.ac.th
Approximately 98% of what we serve in the Cafeterias across campus is home baked, hand cut, hand grated, home cooked, and hand prepared by our 50 strong team every morning. This includes all the items at The Grind, the hamburger buns for BBQ Friday, the baguette bread for the sandwiches, the tortillas for the ES Canteen, the homemade chicken & vegetable stock for all the soups, the pineapple juice for our punch, our slow brewed Iced Tea, and the home roasted meats for our sandwich bar.
We believe that basic is best. Food in its basic form carries the most amount of nutrients for our bodies and is optimally digested, hence allowing us the maximum benefits from the foods we eat. Epicure Catering welcomes a fresh delivery of produce and meats daily, striving to use recipes with only the most natural ingredients. We look forward to another year of providing well balanced, nutritious, tasty meals to all of our very eager and hungry customers, mainly your children.
Parents are also welcome in the HS/MS Cafeteria for breakfast, lunch and snack. Enjoy.
