Added levels of pool safety for 2016
by: Corry Day, Aquatics Director
corryd@isb.ac.th
As announced at the end of last school year, ISB has increased our aquatics staff to include the position of Head Lifeguard and Aquatics Director Assistant, along with 4 full time lifeguards.
Aside from the direct supervision from our American Red Cross trained lifeguards, we have set the mandate that all staff members working in the aquatic environment be trained in American Red Cross Aquatic Safety. This includes our Athletic Director, Athletic Physiotherapist, the 3 aquatics instructors, 11 Physical Education Teachers and 10 Panther Swim Team coaches.
It is our pleasure to serve you this 2016-17 school year. If you have any questions about aquatics safety or any other concerns or questions in the area of aquatics at ISB, please do not hesitate to contact me.

markh@isb.ac.th

Express pass validity is only for the printed academic school year. 2015/16 passes will no longer be accepted at the Nichada gate. Rush hour times have been adjusted to reflect the new school start and finish times. Morning Express pass time will be from 06:30 – 07:45. Afternoon Express pass time will be from 13:45 – 15:00. Those with valid express passes will be allowed to use the outside RFID lanes at the Nichada gate. All others will need to use the visitor lane and may be requested to present ID and receive a entrance coupon from the guards. Entrance coupons must be stamped at the ISB main exit gate or by the guard at the main school office and then returned at the Nichada gate.
What to know in case of a medical emergency
by: Sally Plomley, ISB School Health Coordinator
nurse@isb.ac.th
Medical emergencies occur when we least expect it. We all need to know how we can get help in the case of an emergency. At ISB, we continually get new members of our community who have come from overseas and do not know what to do in the event of an emergency.
Please take note to save the emergency numbers that follow into your mobile phone so that you can easily call for assistance when needed.
School:
At school we have our School Health Nurse working Monday to Friday 7am-8pm and Saturday 8am-3pm (or later depending on sport schedule). In the case of a medical emergency or accident call 1111 from an internal phone or 081 944 8255 from a mobile phone. The nurse has been trained to assess the situation and call for help as required. We do have a school ambulance to transfer patients to hospital if required.
If there is no nurse on duty we recommend you call World Medical Centre on 02 836 9977 for an ambulance. You should also call security on 7705 from an internal phone or 081 806 6740 from a mobile phone to notify them of the situation so they can direct the ambulance.
Nichada Thani:
At times the school may be able to help with medical emergencies in the Nichada community. This may not be possible when there is only 1 nurse on duty or if the nurses are dealing with emergencies in the school. You can try calling the nurse on the above number but she may tell you to call for help elsewhere. Ambulances can be arranged through the following local hospitals:
World Medical Centre (Ambulance) 02 836 9977
Mongkut Wattana General Hospital 02 574 1000
Nonthavej Hospital 02 596 7888
The Bumrungrad Nichada Clinic does NOT offer an emergency service. There is no ambulance available from there and the doctor will not attend emergencies in the community. They do not have any imaging on site and can only treat minor injuries. The number for the clinic is 02 960 4216 and they are open Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm. They are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Downtown:
If you live downtown or are visiting the downtown area it is worth knowing where the nearest hospital is to call for help. Some hospitals in the downtown area are:
Bangkok Hospital 02 310 3000 (New Petchaburi Rd)
Bumrungrad Hospital (Ambulance) 02 667 1188 (Sukhumvit 3)
Phayathai 1 Hospital 02 640 1111 (Victory Monument)
Phayathai 2 Hospital 02 617 2400 (Victory Monument)
Samitivej Hospital (Ambulance) 02 711 8389 (Sukhumvit 49)
In Bangkok you can also call 191 (general emergencies and ask for ambulance) or 1669 (for an ambulance). The problem with this is the ambulance comes from a central location and may take some time to get to you.
When there is a medical emergency please remain calm. Assign one person to call for help and speak slowly to the nurse/operator to get help. Tell them the nature of the injury and the location of the victim. If you are an english speaker remember that you will be talking to someone who is not a native english speaker and speaking to them quickly or in a panic may cause confusion. One of the most important things is to keep yourself and the patient calm. Getting panicked will only cause a rise in blood pressure in the patient and potentially make the injury/illness worse.
Allow time for the help to arrive. Do not call every 1-2 minutes to see why help has not arrived….it will just slow down the process and people will be answering the phone not getting to you.
Living in Bangkok it can be hard to access medical care quickly. It may be worth doing basic first aid training and keeping a first aid kit in your car so you can help stabilize the patients whilst waiting for help to arrive. A CPR and First Aid course for children is offered by Samitivej Hospital (link). There is First Aid Bangkok also provide general CPR and First Aid training in Bangkok (link).
ISB is committed to your child’s overall development, both educationally and health related. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your healthcare provider or the ISB Health Clinic (nurse@isb.ac.th).

ISB Lost Property
by: Natalie Lollback
lollbackng@gmail.com
Lost Property has a new location! Our new office is just past the High School building at the Temporary offices (the old Ed Tech building).
It will be open daily from 10am-2pm so children can go and look for their lost items. We will also still have our monthly displays of Lost Property, the last Friday of every month in the HS/MS cafeteria.
Parents please make sure that all items going to school have a name on them! Most of the new uniforms now have a label inside them to write your child’s name on. We prefer a surname and please no ‘nick’ names. Items will be donated if they’re not claimed within 2 months.
Finally remember to ‘like’ the ‘ISB Lost and Found’ Facebook page. Over the year we’ll be posting pictures of items and dates of displays.

The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts in Thailand get many opportunities to better themselves and our community and to have a lot of fun along the way. Bangkok Youth Soccer (BYS)
Registration for the 2016 season is now open!
Registration for the 2016 season is now open. Please try to register early as it really helps with coordinating the teams and finding coaches. You may register here.
Bangkok Youth Soccer is a parent-run league that provides a place for boys and girls aged 4-18 to develop their soccer skills in a safe, structured, and fun environment. The league runs from August – early November.
For the BYS to have a successful season we are in need of volunteers. We require an adult to coach a team and be available on Saturdays for games. Weekday training sessions are led by Bangkok Soccer Schools. If you are able to volunteer as a coach or a Division Coordinator, please email BYS at bangkokyouthsoccer@gmail.com.
New this year, in collaboration with ISB and Bangkok Soccer Schools, BYS will be offering a year round competitive team, Panthers FC, for the U11 and U9 age groups. Tryouts for these teams will be held in September.

But come out and join your fellow Masters swimmers for some great exercise and fun. Our group swims every Tuesday and Thursday mornings (7:30 – 8:30am) in the main Nichada pool. There is no cost and all levels are very welcome. It is a great hour of exercise and fun. And the coffee at Starbucks tastes much better after an hour of swimming!
Contact Catherine Miller at solviken66@hotmail.com or Kerstin Wild at kerstin.bangkok@gmail.com if you have any questions.
