Welcome and Welcome Back
Philip Bradley
philipb@isb.ac.th

As the summer vacation comes to an end and the new school year approaches I know there are mixed feelings amongst our students. From a number of brief encounters and conversations it is evident that students have enjoyed a rich and varied summer of travel, relaxation, adventure, learning, sport and family time.  That said, most students also said they were looking forward to school, meeting new students and catching up with old friends, some even hinted that they were a bit bored and ready to work! But no one likes getting up so early! So, to our new and returning families and students a very warm welcome or welcome back. Also a warm welcome to the 12 new teachers and administrators who are joining high school this year.

A lot of hard work and preparation has been going on over the vacation and along with my

colleagues we are excited to school opening on Monday August 15 th. The day will start with an assembly (7:20) in the Chevron Theater.

Our new student and parent orientation is on Saturday Aug 13th AM

Our grade 9 returning students (only students) moving up from ISB middle school (not new to ISB) orientation is at 14:00 on Saturday Aug 13th PM

Sincerely,
Philip Bradley

Message from the Dean of Students
Andy Vaughan
andyv@isb.ac.th

Welcome and a few start of School reminders
We are very excited to welcome each student back to school this Monday, 15 August for the first day of the 2016-17 School Year.

We have some exciting changes that are taking place this year with a new Advisory Program launching in the High School, as well as a new schedule that hopes to achieve better balance for our students. The following are some general start of school reminders.

Uniforms and Dress Code
As you prepare for the start of school, please remember that all students must wear school uniform, which in the High School consists of the white or navy blue ISB collared shirt purchased through the ISB Bookstore and either khaki or black skirt, shorts, or pants purchased through the ISB bookstore or purchased outside of the school so long as they are within the same design limitations as the current school pants (e.g. no lycra/spandex). Pants must have side seams and need to have pockets.

Please note that ISB PE clothing may not be worn as a substitute for school uniform clothing. Additionally, underwear of any kind should not be visible. Undershirts should not extend out of the uniform shirt at all.

For footwear, students must wear shoes that are comfortable, practical, safe, and do not reflect poorly on ISB.  Slippers and flip flop sandals (toe plug or not) are not acceptable school footwear and will not be permitted.

The High School faculty and administration will monitor students’ attire to ensure that it aligns to our expectations.  Please help us in ensuring that your student(s) only wear dress code conforming clothing to school.  Please refer to the online student handbook for more information.

Bicycle and Motor Scooter Helmets
For personal safety considerations, appropriate bike helmets must be worn (and properly strapped) by both students and adults while on campus.  Administrators and security guards will monitor the front gate the first week of school and offer reminders and encouragement.  Thank you for helping to support and model a safe environment at ISB!

Transportation
Only students with a valid Thai driver’s license may drive/park a car on campus.  Students who are 15 years or older may drive/park a motor scooter on campus provided:

  • Student has a Thai driver’s license for his/her age group
  • Student obtains a parking permit sticker from the HS Office
  • The motorbike is 110cc or under if the student is under 18 years of age
  • Always wears an appropriate/strapped motorcycle helmet (and only carries passengers with helmets) on and off campus

Golf carts must also be operated safely and be affixed with a parking pass from the High School Office. Only students with an approved drivers licence will be permitted to park a golf cart on campus.

Many thanks in advance for working together to ensure that your child is prepared appropriately for the start of the school year.

We’re looking forward to seeing you back to school on Monday!  Before then, sign your club up for the Club Fair.  The Fairs will start RIGHT AWAY, on the 3rd day of school, August 17th.  This is your chance to promote your club and recruit new members!  The fair will be over five days in the MPB, so the clubs that meet on Day 2 will be the only ones presenting at the fair on Day 2.  Clubs that meet on Day 3 will be at the fair on Day 3 (August 18th), and so on.  Please fill out this form to reserve a spot.
