Welcome Wai is seeking volunteers
by Elinna Bahrin and Heidi Tilley
welcomewai@isb.ac.th
In preparation for the next school year, the Welcome Wai team is looking to put together a list of willing parents who can share school information with new families to help them acclimate. There are many roles available from attending the initial Welcome Back coffees and monthly coffees, to compiling the information packets, being a school specific contact (ES / MS / HS) or a welcoming country/community representative.
Some of the upcoming events are the Welcome Wai Coffee for new Middle School and High School parents during orientation on Saturday, August 13 and the Back to School Coffee on Monday, August 15 at 7:20 am.
The initial point of contact will be the Welcome Wai Coordinators along with PTA School (ES, MS& HS) and Country / Community Representatives.
Being part of the Welcome Wai team is a very simple volunteer role but key to providing a warm welcome to new parents. If this is something you would like to be involved with, we would love to hear from you. Email us at welcomewai@isb.ac.th

by Charlotte Staib Hansen
isbgym@gmail.com
WOW! It is that time again – The ISB Panther Gymnastics have opened up registrations for the ISB Panther Gymnastics classes Term 1 2016-2017 (link at the end of the email).
We have had a fantastic and very busy year. We are thrilled as we are already preparing for a brand new year to learn new skills, develop strength (both physical and mental) and make new friends.
Please note that we have made some changes to the schedule this year as a consequence of the changed schedule in Middle School and High School:
– The class start/finish times have changed a little (please see the schedule attached here).
– We have implemented is to restrict access to some classes for ES gymnasts and some to MS and HS gymnasts. The purpose of this is to try to have a more even age group within each class. This is new and we are excited to see how it works out.
Please register via this link:
https://thriva.activenetwork.com/Reg4/Form.aspx?IDTD=3207594&RF=11609987
Some of our classes fill up quickly. Please do not over-register to ensure your favourite class – such names will be removed from the participation lists. Thank you for understanding.
Please note some important dates:
– Classes start on August 14
– Registrations end on August 25
– All payments are due on August 25
If you have any questions please feel free to email us, isbgym@gmail.com.

Bangkok Youth Soccer (BYS)

Registration for the 2016 season is now open!
Registration for the 2016 season is now open. Please try to register early as it really helps with coordinating the teams and finding coaches. You may register here.
Bangkok Youth Soccer is a parent-run league that provides a place for boys and girls aged 4-18 to develop their soccer skills in a safe, structured, and fun environment. The league runs from August – early November.
For the BYS to have a successful season we are in need of volunteers. We require an adult to coach a team and be available on Saturdays for games. Weekday training sessions are led by Bangkok Soccer Schools. If you are able to volunteer as a coach or a Division Coordinator, please email BYS at bangkokyouthsoccer@gmail.com.
New this year, in collaboration with ISB and Bangkok Soccer Schools, BYS will be offering a year round competitive team, Panthers FC, for the U11 and U9 age groups. Tryouts for these teams will be held in September.
For information about BYS, Panthers FC, and registration, visit our website, https://www.isb.ac.th/community-soccer .
Looking forward to a great season!

ISB Summer Flight School FAQ’s
by Top Flight
ike@topflightbangkok.com
Dear Parents and Students,
We are less than one week away from our Top Flight Summer Flight School at International School Bangkok (ISB).
Please see the registration links below:
ISB CAMP WEEK 1:
https://academy.topflightbangkok.com/academyfront/register/create/course_id/115
ISB CAMP WEEK 2:
https://academy.topflightbangkok.com/academyfront/register/create/course_id/114
We would like to take this opportunity to answer some frequently asked questions before camp begins. If you don’t see an answer to your question below please feel free to contact us at info@topflightbangkok.com.
1. Can we register in person on the first day or does all registration have to be done online?
Yes, it is possible to sign up in person on the day of camp although we encourage our students to register on our website. Registering early gives our staff the opportunity to plan different aspects of the camp ahead of time like meals, t-shirts, trophies, etc. Early registration also gives us a better idea of how many students to expect in each age group. Our online registration system has now been upgraded to allow for multiple registrations so families with more than one child can register under the same login ID making the registration process fast and easy.
2. For payments, is it possible to make payments in advance, or must we make payment on the first day?
Early payments can be made this Saturday at NIST at any regularly scheduled Top Flight training session. The registration fee is 7,500 baht for the week.
You can also pay by bank transfer:
Bangkok Bank
Top Flight Basketball Co. Ltd
031-0-21249-3
If you choose to pay by bank transfer, please send us the receipt of payment with the name of the registered kid.
3. We are unsure of how many days our child will attend, is it possible to make payment later in the week or on the last day of camp?
Unfortunately the answer is no, we will no longer be accepting late payments. In order for us to organize our records properly, all payments must be made on the first day of camp. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and hope that you understand. If you are unsure of how many days your child will attend, you are welcome to pay the daily drop-in fee of 1,800 baht, if it turns out your child attends all 5 days, we will deduct the difference in price from the weekly registration fee and daily drop in fees. If you are unable to come to ISB to pay in person on the first day, please make the necessary arrangements, i.e. nanny or driver.
4. What time shall we arrive on the first day of the camp?
We recommend that you arrive between 08:30-09:15 on the first day in order to give students time to acclimate themselves to the camp atmosphere. It is especially important for students who plan to register and make payments in person to be there early.
Ideally we would like to have all students registered and on the court by 9:30 am start time.
5. What will be the camp lunch menu? Is there a set menu and will there be vegetarian, lactose free and gluten free?
ISB Catering Services will organize all of our meals and snacks during camp. Our campers will be able to choose from several lunch options everyday, including vegetarian, lactose free options. Our light snack (10:45-11:00 before lunch) will include items such as healthy wraps and fresh fruit.
6. How will campers be divided, by age, skill, level or gender?
We are worried that with a mixed skill level camp our child will find the camp too boring/challenging for their skill level.
Coach Ike and the Top Flight staff will go to great lengths to make sure that students are grouped commiserate to their skill level in order to ensure each child has an enjoyable experience. In some cases that will mean dividing students by ability, age, and sometimes by gender.
7. How will the camp be structured, will more emphasis be put on skill development and intensive training or will the camp be more about fun games and contests?
We find that for our younger students, (Ages 6-8) over the course of a five day camp, it is very important to keep them engaged and excited about coming to camp everyday, therefore we try to make the camp as fun as possible for them so they are enjoying what they are learning.
For our older players (Ages 15-17), and our Elite Team players, we find that their primary motivation for coming to basketball camp is to improve their overall skill set and gain a competitive advantage for the next season. For these students we offer a more serious and challenging camp experience that centers on advanced concepts, dynamic movements and challenging drills.
For the middle group (9-14) that makes up the majority of our campers we try to find a nice mix of the two experiences, fun, and advanced skill work.
This year we will also be having a “Elite” group for kids who have demonstrated an advanced skill set. These players will be separated from the rest of the campers and will have different curriculum for the week.
8. We will be registering two students for the camp. Is there a discount for families registering more than one student?
Yes we offer a family 10% discount for families registering more than one child per family.
We hope this answers many of the questions you have.
Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns you have.
We can’t wait for another amazing camp experience.
See you at camp!!
Best Regards,
The Top Flight Team
