Grade 8 Moving On Ceremony – Live Stream
by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
We are looking forward to celebrating our grade 8 students’ completion of middle school as we wish them well entering high school. The Moving On Ceremony will be live streamed, as it takes place on Wednesday, June 8th, starting at 8:00 AM Bangkok time.
If you have family and friends who cannot attend the ceremony, this is a nice way for them to be part of the celebration from afar. Just send them the link and help them work out the time difference for our 8:00 AM start! https://livestream.com/accounts/4247834/events/5525308
Having Fun Together Builds Community
by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
This coming Wednesday, grade 6 and grade 7 students will be heading off campus for some fun together as a class. The grade 6 are heading to a water park and the grade 7 will be going bowling and seeing a movie.
(The grade 8 aren’t being overlooked … they have their Moving On Ceremony on Wednesday, and then will have social time after that on campus.)
Understandably, parents occasionally ask questions about these days and their “learning value.” We believe firmly that important parts of the middle school child’s life are community connection and play. After a long year of classroom learning, assessments, presentations, and group work, we value this time at the end of the year for these friends to socialize together, bond one last time with their classmates, and enjoy one another’s company. We continue to look at the activities the students engage in and other creative ways to have fun with them.
As we enter the final week of school, with the half-day on Thursday, we look forward to the fun day ahead with the whole grade together.
Returning School Materials
by Dennis Harter
dennish@isb.ac.th
With the year winding down, please help your child go through their room, bag, or wherever else their school materials might be hiding to ensure that they return these items next week. Library books should be returned (unless they’ve just been checked out for the summer) as well. Laptops will be collected on Tuesday – students should back-up any data they wish to keep.
If materials have not been returned a hold is placed on reports and transcripts, until those items have been returned or paid for.
We will help your child clear out their locker, submit their ID cards, and return their laptops at school on Tuesday.
End Of Year Laptop Collection
We are in the final weeks of the school year and with it comes the laptop collection. The following form (https://bit.ly/macstudentform) was sent to all students by email so that they can prepare for this moment. Please help your children copy their personal files over to an external hard drive or any online storage service of your preference. This slideshow (https://bit.ly/mslaptopcollection) walks you through the steps you need to take and provides additional information not included in this email. If you have any questions or need specific information to be exported from our school services or resources, please don’t hesitate to contact Ed Tech or Mr. Zambrano.
Student Supplies for the 2016-17 School Year
The ISB Bookstore will prepare a packet of supplies for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. There is no need to buy supplies over the summer as this packet should cover students’ needs. The package includes pencils, pens, accordion folders and notebooks for their studies. The 6th grade packet will cost about 1250 baht. The 7th and 8th grade supply packets will cost about 750 baht. They can be bought at the ISB Bookstore starting on August 4th.

Nepal in Need
LAST CALL to contribute to the Nepal 2016 Earthquake Recovery fundraiser. If you’ve been meaning to make a donation, but just haven’t yet, now is the time! One year ago, on April 25, 2015, earthquakes devastated Nepal. However, through the generous contributions from the ISB and Nichada communities last year, we were able to raise funds to help the Moonlight School rebuild their broken school. Since they are the hosts of our annual GCW Nepal trip, we want to continue to support their recovery. Even though they now have a new school that directly serves children living in poverty in Kathmandu, they still need to raise the funds to install filters to provide safe drinking water for their students. PLEASE MAKE A DONATION AT THE ISB CASHIER’S OFFICE to the “Nepal Moonlight Account.” (Mr.Schoonover)
